Machnamh

All powerful God,

you are present in the whole universe

and in the smallest of your creatures.

You embrace with your tenderness

all that exists.

Pour out upon us the power of your love,

That we may protect life and beauty.

Fill us with peace, that we may live

as brothers and sisters,

harming no one.

Smaoineamh

Faith adds the buoyancy of hope to life. We need hope as much as we need food. But we can’t have hope without faith. And faith results in joy. Happy those who discover the joy of believing, the rapture of faith in God, the ecstasy of heeding the divine invitation and clasping God’s out stretched hand.

But we mustn’t expect faith to clear everything up. We live in a world where many desperately seek to know all the answers. Just because we believe doesn’t mean we know everything. But we don’t need to know all the answers. People don’t have to understand a work of art to be inspired by it. Faith is trust, not certainty.
