Thought for the day: People undergoing counselling and therapy sometimes have a block or memory, which is holding them back, usually an earlier difficult experience of some kind. Something like that is happening in the Old Testament folk tale of the bronze serpents: the power of the serpents to cause harm is taken away once they are confronted straight in the eye, through the symbol of the bronze serpent. We may say the same of Jesus as he faced death for us. Being lifted up for our sake, he looked death in the eye and took away its power over us. Prayer: Loving God, in your beloved Son, lifted up for our sakes, you took away the power of sin and death. Help us to continue to live as people set free, so that we may come to the eternal life you hold out to us. Amen. Fr Kieran O’Mahony.

Pope Leo XIV on ‘X’: Saints Pier Giorgio Frassati and Carlo Acutis are an invitation to all of us, especially young people, not to squander our lives, but to direct them upwards and make them masterpieces.

Gluten Free hosts are available from the priest at communion time.
Priest on duty this Sunday:

Why Sunday Matters – The Irish Catholic Bishops have published a Pastoral Letter on Why Sunday Matters – an invitation to reflect on Sunday Mass. It is available in parishes, or can be downloaded from the diocesan website, www.dioceseofkerry.ie. There is also an accompanying video series entitled Sunday Mass – Digging Deeper, also available on the diocesan website.

The Season of Creation, an initiative of the JPIC Committee of the Diocese of Kerry, will continue until Oct 4th. The theme this year is ‘Peace with Creation’ (Isaiah 32:14-18). In this Jubilee Year let us be Pilgrims of Hope for a Peaceful Earth. Breis eolais: www.dioceseofkerry.ie.

Creator of all, we praise you for the gift of life and for the faith that unites us in care for our common home. We confess how estranged we have become— from one another, from your Creation, and from our truest selves. We acknowledge that our greed and destructive impulses have fractured our relationships with you, with others, and with the Earth. Fertile fields have become barren, forests lie desolate, oceans and rivers are polluted. Thriving communities have become places of suffering, and the earth cries out. Amen.

Prayer for Vocations
Blessed Trinity, Father, Son and Spirit,

Hear our prayers for our needs as parish communities.
Bless our efforts to strengthen lay ministry. In our diocese and in all our parishes give to each person the grace to discern, follow and live their calling. Call forth from among us vocations to the diocesan priesthood.
Fill the hearts of our priests and deacons with renewed Peace and Joy.
Father, in all things ‘Thy will be done’.
We entrust our prayers to you through Christ our Lord. Amen.
