A Player’s Machnamh
A Thiarna, ofrálaim an cluiche seo duit.
Ofrálaim m’imirt duit mar urnaí agus
déanfad mo dhícheall.
Is tábhachtaí m’iompar ar an bpáirc inniu ná fuinneamh mo ghéag sa chluiche.
Má dheinim go maith cabhraigh liom
éirí in airde a sheachaint,
Mioscais má bhuaitear orainn agus fearg,
formad agus fíoch.
Ach, a Thiarna, táim ag tnúth leis an mbua.
Tabhair cúnamh dom, más ea, mo dhícheall a dhéanamh agus gur leor sin chun an chraobh a bhreith. AMEN
Ó Austin Flynn, Port Láirge 1959 – Aistríodh ag Mons. Pádraig Ó Fiannachta.

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (The RCIA)
After the summer break we are hoping, early in October, to resume the RCIA meetings. The meetings will be held in the Díseart 7.00pm to 8.30pm on Monday evenings and will be open to any person, not brought up in the Catholic faith but interested in learning more about it and about what it means to become a full member of the Catholic Church.
The meetings will be relaxed and informal and will consist of a brief presentation on the subject or topic of the evening given by a member of the RCIA team, which will be followed by time for discussion and sharing; then there will be a short period of quiet reflection and sharing on a passage of Sacred Scripture and will finish with a brief prayer service. At the end there will be time for light refreshments.
If you are interested, or if you know somebody who may be interested in joining the group please get in touch with the Parish Priest in your local parish or area who will be very happy to answer any queries you may have and will put you in touch with a member of the RCIA team. (Fr. Jim Sheehy of the Corca Dhuibhne RCIA team).

“You ask what’s the Secret of Kerry
‘Tis often I wished that I knew…”
Since 1891 Kerry teams have been contesting All-Ireland Finals and this weekend all roads lead to Croke Park for our Minor and Senior footballers. Go n-éirí go geal le gach duine acu, comh maith lenár bFóirne Bhainistíochta agus lucht leanúna na Ríochta sa bhaile agus thar lear.
Our Pastoral Area of Corca Dhuibhne is once more seriously engaged in a sporting campaign to bring The Tom Markham Cup XII and Sam Maguire No. XXXVII home. We salute all the families and local Clubs, Schools and Colleges that make this possible.
(Minors) Cathal Ó Bambaire, Brian Ó Beaglaoí, Mark Ó Conchúir, Matthew Ó Flathartha, Conor Ó Geibheanaigh, Brian Ó Raoill, Rob Ó Sé, Tomás Ó Sé, Barry Ó Súilleabháin agus Tom Ó Súilleabháin.
(Seniors) Alan MacGearailt, Mikey Ó Geibheanaigh, Paul Ó Geibheanaigh agus Marc Ó Sé.
A unique SW versus NW Double.
We publish a verse celebrating Donegal’s 1992 Senior All-Ireland victory in recognition of all Donegal parishioners resident in our Pastoral Area. This weekend’s Croke Park double pairing is a deep source of genuine pride and mórtas cine for all true lovers of Gaelic sport, tradition and native place.
Good Health to Brian, Tír Chonaill’s mentor,
Whose faith and vision made dreams come true –
He scored both cynic and vile dissenter,
And doubting dragons with courage slew!
His name’s enshrined with the great Cú Chulainn,
That haughty hero of Macha’s hall –
He stands tonight in the gap of glory
The cherished chieftain of Donegal.
(Paddy Tunney: In praise of Heroes – Jimmy Smyth)
Up Kerry! Hurrah for her fighting fifteen.
Ho! They swing up from Dingle and in past Lixnaw,
Over the mountains from proud Iveragh;
Just mark how they rally from gallant Tralee,
In charming Killarney to muster with glee!
Hurrah for the Crokes! Lo, the Mitchels are here;
Give the Rangers, O’Connells and Gascons a cheer;
God bless them and weld them, success to the team
That has raised the old game to its place of esteem.

To strive for their sire-land, their honour to shield,
The champions of Ireland they face on the field;
With swoop like a swallow’s the ball rends the air,
‘Tis back like an arrow – McCarthy was there,
With Lawlor and Costello, Murphy and Rice!
The O’Shea shoots the leather to Fitz in a thrice –
Dick passes to Skinner, ‘tis netted by Breen,
And a cheer rends the air for the Kingdom’s fifteen

Let us cheer once again for the green and the gold,
For Kerry’s fair daughters, her sons ever bold –
By the Bann and the Lagan, the Liffey and Lee,
Their names are as famed as in peerless Tralee!
A cheer for the dear ones, who’ve strayed o’er the foam;
A prayer for the brave ones, whose dust rests at home –
One final hurrah for the dauntless fifteen
Who vanquished all Ireland in nineteen-thirteen!
(Seán Ó Ceallaigh “Sceilg” – from Valentia)
Ciarraí Abú!
