MISSIONS TODAY

Together in Mission

This month we remember all our missionaries who have died on the mission fields in particular Columban Fr. Tommy O’Hanlon (Tarbert) who died in Pakistan last July and Kiltegan Fr. Gerry Roche, (Athea) who was murdered in his Kericho Mission in Kenya last December. Fr. Gerry who previously ministered in Castleisland had a passion for justice and was never afraid to speak out about what he saw as unjust treatment of people.

“For many Irish people, the word missionary means a priest in a foreign land teaching, baptising and celebrating Mass for its people or a religious running a school somewhere in a place called Africa, Latin America, Asia. As the number of priests and religious missionaries declines the number of lay missionary people increases. These new patterns involve new cooperation and partnerships within our missionary movement.”

Liz Higgins, from Dingle has gone to work in South Africa. We think of her and other lay missionaries who are ‘representing’ us at this time far from home.

Ursuline St. an tSiúr Eanna Ní Mhoráin (Sr. Enda Moran) of Ballyferriter Parish died at the age of 96 in Thurles on 28th September last. She had been a teacher in the Secondary School there and, at the age of 63, she went to join the Ursulines who were working in Kenya. She finally returned from Kenya to Thurles in 1994 but never forgot the experience she had at a time when most people would want to take life easy.

October Month of the Rosary

Parishioners and families are reminded of the importance of praying the Rosary, contemplating the mysteries of our faith. Pope Paul VI said the Rosary is “a compendium of our Faith”.

We draw your attention to the re-placing of Our Lady of Good Counsel Statue by renowned artist Imogen Stuart on a plinth in St. Mary’s Porch. The stone was quarried in O’Sullivan’s Quarry, Minard, the Quarry which originally provided the stone for St. Mary’s Church.

Ofrálaim suas an Choróin Mhuire seo is onóir agus in ainm Íosa agus in onóir na Maighdine glórmhaire Mhuire bheith rannpháirteach le híobairt naofa an Aifrinn, ar an intinn chéanna a d’ofráil ár Slánaitheoir é féin ar chrann na croise ar ár son; le hintinn an Phápa agus an Teampaill Chaitlicigh Rómhánaigh; ar son gach anam bocht is géire agus is mó atá ag fulaingt pianta purgadóireachta, go speisialta dár mairbh bhochta féin. A Athair neamhaí iarraimid ort sinn a bheannú

Agus sinn ag ullmhú do Mhisean an Pharóiste i Mí na Samhna.

Oscail ár gcroíthe dod ghrásta

Go mbeimid níos dílse ag leanúint do shlí.

Leag go fial do bheannacht ar na teaghlaigh inár bparóiste ar ár bpobal sa bhaile agus i gcéin,

Go h’áirithe na teaghlaigh sin atá i gcruachás.

Beannaigh idir óg agus críonna, uaigneach

Iad siúd a chaill a slí

Go dtitfidh do ghrá orainn, a Thiarna

Agus sinn ag cur ár ndóchas i dtaisce ionat. Amen
