Permanent Diaconate
On next Saturday, November 15th, Conor Bradley of Milltown Parish and Jean Yves Letanneur of Sneem parish will be ordained to the Permanent Diaconate by Bishop Ray Browne in the Cathedral in Killarney. This is a very important day in the lives of Conor, Jean Yves, their families and the Diocese. We welcome them as Deacons in the Diocese and we pray God’s blessing on their ministry amongst us in the coming years. All are welcome to attend the ceremony, which takes place at 12 noon. We ask you to keep Conor and Jean Yves in your prayers.

Holy Souls – November Masses continue in our 3 Parish churches, in West Kerry Community Hospital and Coláiste Íde remembering all those named by you in our Parish November Lists.
You will find the purple coloured list in the envelope delivered to your homes recently. Please fill in this list and return with your customary November Offering at your earliest convenience. Extra envelopes and lists are available at the back of the three Parish Churches. Masses will be celebrated for those on the lists, every week during Nov in the 3 Parish Churches:

Dedication of the Lateran Basilica
Today we celebrate the dedication of the Basilica of St. John Lateran, historically the oldest church in Rome. It was the residence of the Pope for centuries and remains his cathedral. It is considered the mother of all churches!
The Lateran Basilica is the Episcopal seat of the Bishop of Rome, the head and mother of all churches. The dedication serves as a reminder that we are not simply individual churches ‘that do our own thing’ but rather that our local parish life serves as part of a greater unity that is the one Body of Christ.
In the First Reading, it is as a stream flowing out from under the threshold of the Temple that provides life wherever it flows: God’s presence goes out to enhance life.
The Second Reading reminds us that we are the temple of God, for the Spirit of God resides in us, thus, we are the Church, Christ is our foundation, namely, we are the Body of Christ.
We can take away many reflections from today’s feast: we celebrate the Church as a place of encounter with God; we are also reminded that God is not confined to one building or the structures placed around it. We gather as community in prayer and worship in our churches united with Christians all over the world, yet we remember that it is the people who gather there in Jesus’ name who are the real Church. The Temple of God is the Christian community, the Body of Christ with Jesus as its foundation. This is pre-echoed in the second reading today from St. Paul when he says:
‘For the Temple of God is holy and you are that Temple’.

Donal Walsh R.I.P.
His Faith help others in Face of Death
When Donal Walsh died in May 2013 at just 16 years of age, he left a lasting legacy behind.
During a four-year battle with cancer he raised over €50,000 for charity. When he was told that his condition was terminal, he became passionate about raising awareness about mental health issues. He pointed out that he had no choice about living, that the cancer was slowly killing him, but that suicidal people had a choice and could reach out for help.
It became his personal mission to inspire those in need to seek professional help, appearing on national TV to talk about his cause and recording an anti-suicide video for schools. After his appearance on one particular chat show, a national youth website reported a fourfold increase in young people asking for help with suicidal thoughts. His family home was also flooded with letters from people whom he’d inspired.
Donal drew powerful strength from his faith in his final weeks, believing that God may be using him as a witness to the value of life.
His local priest, Fr. Francis Nolan said Faith played a huge role in Donal’s life and gave him comfort as he faced death. “Prayer became very important to him. His mother is a Eucharistic Minister and he received Communion from her every day,” he said.
According to Fr. Nolan, Donal “had no fear of dying, just in leaving people behind.”
“He never complained about being ill. He never said why me. He turned his own illness around to muster people into action. That’s a huge message for everyone. Circumstances don’t always go your way but in every crisis there is an opportunity and I think Donal showed us that,” Fr. Nolan to The Irish Catholic. (Website: donalwalshlivelife.org)
