Eucharistic Congress 2012
In preparation for the Eucharistic Congress 2012, we are invited over the coming two years to focus on how we celebrate the Eucharist.
“When the word, ‘church’ was first used, back in New Testament times, it had few of the connotations it has today. It simply meant the Christians of a particular place who gathered for the Eucharist. The original world for church/eaglais – ekklesia – means an assembly, people called together. The stress is on people gathering. As Christians, we are not just called; we are called together, gathered.”

NB: We invite all First Communicants and Parents / Guardians to occupy the front seats of our Church today, please.
At the Creed the Celebrant will invite the First Communicants to place their Enrolment Certificates on the Altar. Next, the children, Parents / Guardians and then the congregation are invited to proclaim their Faith and commitment to this Parish programme. After Communion the celebrant will give a special Candle to each participating household. The Volunteer co-ordinators will give a copy of the Grapevine / An Fhíniúin in family preparation for our next special liturgy of the 31st Sunday in Ordinary Time the weekend of October 30th and 31st.

Frs. Tomás and Bernard will continue their visit to all homes in Na Dúnta agus Eaglais and An Ghleanna this week in preparation for our Mission which will take place from Sun the 7th of Nov. to Friday 12th under the direction of the Redemptorist Team.

Letter from Kokstad, South Africa Part III
For the young people the only way out is education and the schools need to improve an awful lot if they are to have any chance of passing exams. The teaching is poor but a bigger problem is the enormous class sizes in the lower grades. Slí Eile have been working all summer in another school that I go to called Glen Edward. They have been building 2 classrooms. The lads do the labouring under the direction of a local builder and his workers. The rooms have been all finished in 6 weeks and the Handing Over Ceremony is on Friday 27th with Dept officials etc. Father Terry has been running the Slí Eile groups here for the past 5 years and he said that in the beginning the black workers were stunned to see white boys doing the labouring and asking politely for direction. They never saw such a thing before. The black foreman came to work in a suit as a result.
I will miss the Slí Eile lads and their teachers as they all head back to Ireland. I have been helping them with painting etc for the past few days because the teachers have gone on strike here. Most public servants went on strike last Thursday 19th. They are looking for 8.5% increase. It is terrible for the matric students who
need to be working hard. The Matric starts in mid Oct. We are hoping it will be all over by Monday. The weather here is getting warmer but it is still very dry. The countryside is burnt brown for lack of rain. The farmers here would love to have some of the West Kerry misty weather and so would I. All the best for now from Kwa Zulu Natal, Slán Liz Uí hUigín.
