APOSTLES’ CREED
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

Deastógáil na Maighdine 15/08/’09
First Reading (Rev 11:19; 12:1-6. 10). This describes the battle between God and evil, with the ultimate triumph of God.
Second Reading (1 Cor 15:20-26). Christ is the new Adam who undoes all the harm done by the old Adam. (The Church sees Mary as the new Eve who by her obedience to God undoes the harm done by the old Eve.)
Gospel (Lk 1:39-56). This tells of Mary’s visitation to Elizabeth, and contains her hymn of praise to God for his goodness to her and to his chosen people.
Reflection
The feast of Mary’s Assumption says that there is one human being who already is fully and completely redeemed, saved body and soul. That person is Mary, the mother of Jesus. Since she gave birth to him, and was intimately involved in the work of salvation, it is only right that she should share the full fruits of his victory over death.
The Assumption means that after her physical death, Mary’s body was not allowed to remain on earth to corrupt, but was caused by God to come into its transfigured and glorified state. Mary has passed beyond death, and the glory she now shares is the same glory we hope to enjoy also.
By declaring that Mary was assumed ‘body and soul’ into heaven, the Church is declaring that the whole person will be saved, and affirms the goodness of all material reality. The bodily glorification of Mary is the anticipation of the glorification that is the destiny of all. We can look at her now in glory and say, ‘That is how we will be one day.’ Fr. Flor McCarthy SDB

Is í an Mhaighdean Bheannaithe eiseamláir ar chreidimh agus na carthanachta don Eaglais, mar gur lean sí go hiomlán do thoil an Athar, do shaothar slánaitheach a Mic agus do gach spreagadh a fuair sí ón Spiorad Naomh. Mar sin, is é ‘an ball is oirirce san Eaglais í, nach bhfuil a leithéid eile ann; go fiú gur ‘réalú eiseamlárach’, ar an Eaglais atá inti.
