Lá Stairiúil – Craobh an Chontae 2012
In his “From Dún Síon to Croke Park” Micheál Ó Muircheartaigh says “The Christian Brothers can claim much of the credit for a talented bunch of Gaelic footballers that came to the fore in Dingle during the 1930s. Dingle had failed until then to capture a Kerry county championship, but under the captaincy of Jimmy McKenna the first was brought home in 1938; by 1948 five more had been added, and names such as Paddy Bawn Brosnan, Bill Dillon, Seán Brosnan, Tom ‘Gega’ O’Connor and Bill Casey were known throughout the land on account of their exploits on Kerry teams.”
As the 2012 Laochra of Dingle GAA Club line out this Sunday in Austin Stack Park they continue to emulate both the aisling and éachtaí of our former greats including the surviving trio Tom Ashe, Canon Jackie McKenna and Páidí Sheehy in Athlone.
All roads lead to Trá Lí and as Dingle is ablaze with the famed red and white we all say go n-éirí go geal ar an lár mór, beir bua ‘s beannacht.
