Diocesan Collection for the Sick & Retired Priests will be taken up next weekend July 5th/6th as a second collection after Communion.
This Fund helps to support our retired priests, some of whom are in full time Nursing Home care. The fund provides for the ongoing support and care of those who have given their lives in priestly ministry as well as making provision for the payment of medical expenses.

The Diocese of Kerry Courses
(a) Course in Pastoral Ministry, This course will take place over the coming year, starting in September 2014 and will be run in two venues, on Tuesdays in Ardfert Retreat Centre; and on Thursdays in John Paul II Pastoral Centre, Killarney. The course will take place over 20 nights – 10 nights before Christmas and 10 nights during Spring 2015. The cost of the course is €200. Info. from Parish Office or 064 6630538.

Message from Bishop Ray regarding Diocesan Appointments. June 27th 2014
I wish to offer the following words of encouragement as we publish our Diocesan clergy appointments this year. Parish life is healthy throughout the diocese. There is a genuine sense of co-responsibility among people and priests. Lay involvement continues to develop and strengthen. So many people everywhere value their parish and wish to contribute to its ongoing health and strength. The year-long course in Pastoral Ministry has been of great benefit and I encourage every parish to ensure that a number from their own parish participate.
Coping with change is stressful for everyone, priests and parish community. The change to being a parish without a resident priest is particularly difficult. Our priests and laity are responding to the challenge of change at parish and pastoral area level. We have sufficient priests to serve the needs of our diocese, urban and rural, in the years immediately ahead. However, the average age of our priests continues to increase. We all need to promote and pray for vocations to the diocesan priesthood. Are there single men, of whatever age, who at this time are feeling that God might be calling them to serve as priests in our diocese? I believe God will provide for our needs from among ourselves. Priesthood is an extremely challenging life, it is also most fulfilling. Thank God for all the priests who at retirement age and beyond continue to minister generously. Pray for our three students in Maynooth. We are hopeful that a fourth student will join them this Autumn.
Finally let us remember the basics. We are to be people who live by faith, hope and love. Our communities at this time have great need of these Christian virtues. We seek to show kindness, care and service towards all in a time where there is a tendency towards harshness, excessive individualism, every person for themselves. As Christians we pray regularly and we gather on Sunday for our great prayer, our Sunday Mass. Encourage one another to gather on Sunday for Mass. Every parishoner irrespective of age has a part to play in keeping strong the faith of their own community.
In the words of Jesus: As long as you did it to one of these the least of my brethren, you did it to me. Love one another, as I have loved you. Know that I am with you always. The annual list of appointments turns our attention to the year ahead. I pray God’s blessing on all in our diocese and our parishes in 2014-5. Faith, good health, happiness and love to one and all. Trust in Jesus, who revealed God the Father’s love for us all. Mary, Mother of perpetual help, pray for us.

Our Patron Saints / Laochra an Chreidimh
No. 105. Saint Maria de Cervellon was born on the 1st of December, 1230 in Barcelona. She was baptised on the 8th of December, 1230. She became the consolation of the poor, the sick and captives in Saint Eulalia Hospital. During her life and after her death, on several occasions, Sister Maria was seen on the wings of the wind helping the redemption ships pounded by the rough sea. Maria died on September 19th 1290. She is buried in the Mercedarian basilica. She has been invoked as the patroness of sailors. Her feast day is the 19th of September.

Pastoral Visit of Bishop de Brún
Bishop de Brún will celebrate our 8pm Vigil Mass on this Saturday June 28th and will launch “Dingle Parish Directory and Patrons” – Treoraí 7 Laochra an Chreidimh”. The Directory will be on sale in July.
After Mass all are invited to the Temperance Hall when our Bishop will inaugurate and bless the newly formed Temperance Hall Committee. Fáilte roimh cách.
The Temperance Hall 1842A.D.
“Father Matthew, the famous Temperance Apostle, visited Dingle on the 26th December, 1840, and in the course of a few days enrolled 25,000 total abstainers. In the course of a second visit to Tralee in May, 1842, Father Matthew received an address of welcome from the Dingle Temperance Society.
Father Devine also delivered a speech, in the course of which he mentioned that the Earl of Cork had given the Society a site for a Temperance Hall, and that only one single individual out of the 25,000 had broken the pledge taken from Father Matthew on his previous visit. The foundation stone of the Temperance Hall was laid by Mr. Hickson of “The Grove” a few months later.” (Romantic Hidden Kerry Page 181)
Since those pre-Famine days the Hall has proved a valued meeting place and community centre in the Parish. Generations of organisations and groups have availed of this historic Main Street venue to good effect. During the 150th St. Mary’s Jubilee Year a new committee has been established to direct activities and continue to be at the service of our community idir óg agus aosta into the future.

The four main wren groups take to the streets, each bringing their own individual identity, spirit and music to the fore. The Sráid Eoin, Goat Street, Quay and Green & Gold wrens have a long history in Dingle town and we are all immensely proud that we and our ancestors have kept this incredible tradition very much alive.
Mount Brandon Pilgrimage and Mass
Bishop de Brún will take part in the Annual Pilgrimage this Sunday June 29th, the Feast of St. Peter and Paul and will celebrate Aifreann Dé on the summit at 2.00pm. Parishioners or visitors who wish to take part are advised to assemble at Baile Breac car park at 11.30am (at the latest) and proceed as a group along Cosán na Naomh to the summit. Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
“In that same year, 1867, the Rev. T. Brosnan, C.C., Ferriter, who took a keen interest in the ancient ecclesiastical buildings of Corkaguiny and who accompanied by large numbers of people, celebrated Mass at Brendan’s Oratory on the summit of Brandon mountain on two occasions during his curacy in the peninsula, was transferred to Tralee.
Fr. Brosnan took an active part in organising the pilgrimage to the Sacred mountain in the following year (28th June 1868) when 20,000 people made the ascent, including Bishop David Moriarty and a large number of the secular and regular clergy of the county.”
