Letter from America
Bellingham, WA, USA
Dear Father,
Thank you so much for your gracious hospitality during our stay in Dingle. A highlight for me continues to be the Corpus Christi procession through the streets of town – what a beautiful witness to the faith that we share! I was especially touched by the shrines and altars that the faithful constructed along the route, and in some ways they bore an even more eloquent witness than those, like myself, who processed. How striking, as the Eucharistic Lord is carried through the streets, to find flowers strewn before Him and pictures of saints joining us in adoration! Thank you for welcoming me as a part of this parish tradition. I shall truly treasure the memory. Kristine
Kirstine will be entering a Passionist Convent in Kentucky later this month. We keep her, and all those discerning a call to religious life in our prayers.
An Chruthaíocht – foinse na hurnaí
Sa chéad dul síos, is ag éirí as buntoscaí na cruthaíochta a thagann ann don urnaí. Naoi gcaibidil tosaigh Gheineasais, cuireann siad an caidreamh seo le Dia in iúl i bhfoirm céadghinte a thréada á n-íobairt ag Áibil, ainm Dé á ghairm ag Eanóis, agus mar ‘shiúl fara Dia’. Tá ofráil Naoi ‘taitneamhach’ i láthair Dé agus beannaíonn sé é, agus trídsean, an chruthaíocht uile, mar bhí croí cóir ionraic aige; bhí seisean freisin ‘ag siúl fara Dia (Gein. 6, 9). Bíonn an urnaí á cur i bhfeidhm sa cháilíocht sin ag mórán daoine fíréanta i ngach reiligiún.

Ag bleán bó
Go mbeannaí Muire is go mbeannaí Dia thú,
Go mbeannaí an ghealach is go mbeannaí an ghrian thú.
Go mbeannaí an fear soir is go mbeannaí an fear siar thú.
Is go mbeannaím féin ar deireadh thiar thú.
While milking a cow
May Mary bless you and may God bless you,
May the moon bless you and may the sun bless you,
May the man going east and the man going west bless you
And may I myself bless you in the end.
Ag déanamh aráin
Rath Dé agus bail Phádraig ar a bhfeicfidh mé agus ar a nglacfaidh mé. An rath a chuir Dia ar na cúig aráin agus ar an dá iasc, go gcuire Sé ar an mbeatha seo é.
While making bread
The grace of God and the prosperity of Patrick on all that I will see and all that I will receive. The grace that God bestowed on the five loaves and on the two fishes, may He bestow on this food.
Bail na gcúig arán agus an dá iasc
Bail na gcúig arán agus an dá iasc
Mar a roinn Dia ar an gcúig mhíle fear.
Rath ón rí a rinne an roinn
Go dtige sé ar ár gcuid is ar ár gcomhroinn.
