Parish Envelope Scheme and Calendar
Please contact the presbytery if you have not yet received your Féilire Eaglasta 2010 and a box of envelopes for your weekly offertory contribution. Also included is an envelope for your Christmas Dues contribution for the Parish Clergy or you can use the envelope provided in your 2009 Box of Envelopes. The Offertory collection funds all running costs and maintenance in our Parish, including insurance, staffing and Diocesan Levy. Tax can also be claimed back by the Parish if any PAYE taxpayer has contributed over €250. We invite every household to participate in this scheme and invite new parishioners to register by contacting the Parish Office on 9151208. A full account of both income and expenditure will be published in the New Year. We thank all our collectors, committee members, counting teams and teangmhálaithe / contact people who serve tirelessly in this essential Parish work. Spare envelopes for Christmas Dues are available at the back of the three Parish Churches. Crib Donations For BETHLEHEM and AFRICA
Your donations given through our three Parish Cribs will go directly to aid needy people in Africa and the Middle East. Local lay missionary Liz Uí hUiginn will embark on her Volunteer Missionary Movement African Project as teacher in a Catholic Secondary School. Monies donated will help fund the provision of necessary materials which otherwise would not be available or affordable for the students.
The Order of Malta run a maternity hospital adjacent to the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem. As no grant aid comes from Israeli or Palestinian authorities to support the care of 22,000 mothers and their babies annually, we are invited to show solidarity in this practical way. Your generous contributions last Christmas greatly helped both Fr. Martin and Fr. P.J. and their Kiltegan missionary outreach to the destitute and refugee families in their care.

World Youth Day 2011

Our parish is hoping to organize a group of students and workers to attend the 25th International World Youth Day in Madrid in 2011. This pilgrimage will be open to young people who will be aged 18 and over in August 2011. (3) The First Nowell
The first Nowell the angel did say
was to certain poor shepherds in

Holy Day of Obligation
Epiphany of the Lord – 6th Jan. Learning from the Magi
The great thing about the Magi was their faith. Even though they were outsiders (Gentiles), they recognised Christ as the Saviour of the world. They are models of faith for us.
The picture many people have of how the Magi came to Bethlehem goes somewhat like this. They saw a bright star in the eastern sky and began to follow it. The star guided them unerringly, first to Jerusalem, where it temporarily disappeared, and then to Bethlehem where they found the Child Jesus.
Their journey was neither simple nor easy. They encountered difficulties, doubts and dangers. Yet, in spite of these they persevered in their quest, and were rewarded when they finally found Christ. This is why their story has such relevance for us. Like them we too are on a journey. When we start out on some road, we too are attracted by something bright – an ideal or vision or hope. And we must expect to encounter difficulties and doubts. Some people think they are losing their faith when they experience doubt. We must not be surprised when this happens. We must imitate the Magi. We must not be too proud to ask for guidance. We must believe that the darkness will pass, and once again we will see the initial star beckoning to us.
The Magi can serve as models for us on our faith journey. They were single-minded. They refused to be put off by difficulties and hardships. When they found Christ they offered him gold, frankincense and myrrh. This shows what happens to those who find Christ. Their hearts are awakened and burst into life. When we find Christ and offer our love to him, he will help us to open up the treasures of goodness that lie buried inside us, so that we can offer ‘gifts’ to our brothers and sisters, especially those who are poor as Christ was. Having worshipped Christ, the Magi, ‘returned to their own country by another route’. This suggests not just a new geographical route, but a new mentality.
