Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.41.
St. Christopher, (Carrier of Christ), was born in Israel. His Feast day is 25th of July. He is the Patron Saint to travellers, sailors, motorists, athletes and mountain climbers. People wear his medal to keep safe. He was a tall fearsome man. He met a hermit who asked how he could serve Christ and was told he could help carry people over a dangerous river, where many people died trying. When a child asked him to be carried across, St. Christopher put him on his shoulders but found the child got heavier. The child was Christ. The local king tried to win him over but St. Christopher refused so the king ordered him beheaded, in 251 AD.
His relic is kept in a Church in Croatia. He is the patron saint of many cities in Germany, Italy, Croatia, Lithuania and Latvia as well as Saint Christopher’s Island (Saint Kitts) in the Carribbean.
I picked Christopher as my Confirmation name because I travel a lot with my Dad to see his family in Co. Meath. I also pray to St. Christopher when my family travel on holidays. Christopher is the name Dad picked for his Confirmation many year ago and it has great meaning for me. (Louis – Scoil Iognáid Rís.)
Bréanainn Naofa – Bealtaine 16ú
A Bhréanainn Naofa,
D’fhágais clann agus teallach le hÍosa, an té a chiúnaigh Muir na Gailíle, a leanúint;
Thugais aghaidh ar fhraoch na bóchna ag craoladh soiscéal ghrá Dé do phobail san imigéin;
Ba mhór an misneach a thugtá do do chomhluadar.
Dearc anuas ormsa agus dúshláin an tsaoil ag bagairt orm; cabhraigh liom mo shaol agus mo dhúthracht a chaitheamh le barr creidimh agus muiníne i nDia na Glóire. Go raibh grá Dé mar cheangal idir mé agus gach n-aon a chastar orm agus go rabhad mar leathbhádóir leatsa san flaithis i gcaitheamh na síoraíochta.
You who gave up so much to follow the way of Him who calmed the sea of Galilee;
You who braved the fury of the ocean to carry the message of God’s love to distant people;
You whose courage was an example to those who travelled with you;
Look now upon us as we face life’s challenges and hardships and help us find the courage to live a life of faith, hope and trust in God so that, like you, we may always shár the love of Christ with our fellow travellers in this life and be found worthy to share eternal life with you.

Make me strong to show your love
Where ever I may be.
Be near me, Lord Jesus, I ask you to stay.
Close by me forever and love me I pray.
Bless all of us children in your loving care,

“Children Helping Children” Mission Appeal
Bishop Liam Ó Murchú and our Diocesan Mission Committee have decided to extend this appeal to all this year’s First Communicants. Children are encouraged to offer a donation towards the education and support of their peers in Africa just as our Confirmation candidates do every year. You are reminded that a donation of 20 cents can provide a good meal for 6 African children so we invite you to keep this act of charity and missionary outreach in mind.
We ask the Do This in Memory Parent Leaders to help collect and forward your cash gifts to the Kerry Diocesan Project Fund through our Dingle Parish Office.
