From the Homily of Pope Benedict at the Consecration of the Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona

We have dedicated this sacred space to God, who revealed and gave himself to us in Christ so as to be definitively God among men. The revealed Word, the humanity of Christ and his Church are the three supreme expressions of his self-manifestation and self-giving to mankind. As says Saint Paul in the second reading: “Let each man take care how he builds. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ” (1 Cor 3:10-11).
The Lord Jesus is the stone which supports the weight of the world, which maintains the cohesion of the Church and brings together in ultimate unity all the achievements of mankind. In him, we have God’s word and presence and from him the Church receives her life, her teaching and her mission.
The Church of herself is nothing; she is called to be the sign and instrument of Christ, in pure docility to his authority and in total service to his mandate. The one Christ is the foundation of the one Church. He is the rock on which our faith is built. Building on this faith, let us strive together to show the world the face of God who is love and the only one who can respond to our yearning for fulfilment. This is the great task before us: to show everyone that God is a God of peace not of violence, of freedom not of coercion, of harmony not of discord.

Misean an Phobail 2010

Following our Parish Mission we bid “Míle buíochas agus Slán abhaile” to our dedicated Redemptorist Fathers’ and Muintearas Íosa Mission Teams and those who organised the 4 traditional Mission stalls. Director Fr. Séamus, told us at our fine closing liturgy that they face home “exhausted if exhilarated”. They prayerfully directed all who participated to harness and harvest their spiritual energies as a faithful pilgrim people.

Fr. Séamus reminded us all that all our preparatory planning commenced last Spring. We thank many of you who attended some of the five intervening public gatherings because the overall programme of our 47 public Mission events emerged from these shared deliberations. Our Parish Pastoral Council continue to welcome your suggestions, ideas and active help in our joint task as we are all “Called to Serve”.

We celebrate the Feast of Christ the King next weekend when we reaffirm our baptismal mission to build on earth with Christ “his kingdom of justice and peace, truth and love”. The approaching Advent and Christmas seasons help focus our sights on this Christian task but Fr. Séamus strongly reminded us that you are never alone as we all journey together – “ar scáth a chéile maireann Pobal Dé”.

Parishioners who would like to take more active part in our Church groups, movements or prayer gatherings are warmly invited to make contact with group leaders or our Parish Office at any time please. Young folk (18 – 30) interested in travelling to Madrid’s World Youth Day next summer might contact Fr. Bernard as Kerry Diocese will be sending youth representatives.

In your name we thank Redemptorist Frs. Séamus Enright, Derek Meskell  and Brendan O’Rourke together with our Muintearas Íosa volunteers Carol and Laura Ahern, Tracy Field, Triona Gleeson, Noreen Lynch, Julianne McEnery agus Bríd Ní Mhurchú, Limerick Diocesan Frs. Michéal de Liostúin, Daithí Madden, Eamon Mac Giobhúin agus Chris Ó Dónaill.  Go gcúití Dia a saothair dóibh.

“Críost ár ndóchas”

Remembering in November

Beannacht Dé le hanamacha na marbh.

Go rabhaimid go léir aontaithe lena chéile i ríocht na bhflaitheas – san áit ina bhfuil beatha gan bhás,

Sláinte gan ghalar, saoirse gan daoirse,

Sonas gan donas agus an uilemhaitheas i measc na naomh ar feadh na síoraíochta.

Suaimhneas síoraí tabhair dóibh, a Thiarna.

Mass for the dead will be celebrated during November as follows:

Mondays in Naomh Muire, Dingle, 7.30pm.

Dé Máirt in Naomh Caitlín, Fionntrá, 7.30pm.

Fridays in Eoin Baiste, Lios Póil, 7.30pm.

NB: There will be no evening Mass in St. Mary’s on Tuesday and Friday during November.

May the Lord support us all the day long,

till the shadows lengthen and the evening comes,

and the busy world is hushed,

and the fever of live is over and our work is done.

Then in His mercy, may He give us a safe lodging,

a holy rest, and peace at last. Amen.

Pray the Congress Prayer:

A Thiarna Íosa,
a cuireadh chugainn ón Athair
chun an dream atá scaipithe a chruinniú le chéile;
Tháinig tú inár measc
ag déanamh na maitheasa agus ag tabhairt leighis,
ag fógairt Briathar an tslánaithe
agus ag tabhairt an t-arán a mhaireann go deo;

Bí mar chompánach againn
ar bhealach oilithrigh an tsaoil.
Go ndéanfaidh do Spiorad Naomh ár gcroíthe a lasadh,
ár ndóchas a bheathú agus ár meonta a oscailt,
i dtreo is go mbeimid in ann,
chomh maith lenár ndeirfiúracha
agus lenár ndeartháireacha,
tú a aithint ‘sna Scrioptúir agus i mbriseadh an aráin.
Go ndéanfaidh do Spiorad Naomh sinn a chlaochlú
in aon chorp amháin
agus sinn a threorú siúl go humhal ar an domhan,
le ceart agus le grá,
mar fhinnéithe ar do aiséirí.

Go mbeadh beannacht,
onóir agus moladh tugtha don Athair, tríot,
sa Spiorad Naomh agus san Eaglais,
i gcomaoin le Muire,
a thug tú mar mháthair dúinn ag bun na croise,

anois agus go deo. Áiméan.
