Autumn Stations
The Eucharist – Communion with Christ and with One Another – this will be the theme of the Eucharistic Congress in Dublin in 2012, but could just as easily be a motto for the custom of Station Masses in the home. When people gather for Mass in their local area it builds up a neighbourly spirit and strengthens faith in Christ. In most areas of the parish, Stations have not been celebrated for a number of years. However, it only takes one household to come forward to revive this tradition, and it only takes a handful of willing families in a Station Area to put it on a firm footing for the years to come. There’s no need to make an extravagant ‘splash’ of hospitality – all that is asked is a warm welcome for neighbours and for Christ in the Eucharist. Anyone interested in hosting Stations in their home this autumn should contact Tigh na Sagart on 066 9151208 during the coming weeks.

A series of talks on some of the great Mystics of the Church & their writings will be held at An Díseart on Wed. 8 – 9.30pm by Fr. Jim Sheehy. 21st Oct. – St. Benedict; 28th Oct. – St. John of the Cross;
11th Nov. – St. Teresa of Avila; 18th Nov. – St. Ignatius of Loyola; 25th Nov. – St. Therese of Lisieux; 2nd Dec. – Thomas Merton.

Our spiritual and material offerings are crucial for the continued work of missionaries throughout the world. The total raised in today’s collection will be sent in its entirety to support mission projects worldwide. Please give what you can, every gift – no matter how small – makes a difference.

The following is a brief biography of some Irish Missionaries who have given a lifetime of service to overseas missions. Further information is available on the website www.wmi.ie.
Sr. Phyllis Heaney MMM – Sao Paulo, Brazil
Irish missionary, Sr. Phyllis Heaney MMM, has been working in Sao Paulo, Brazil, since 1975. Sr. Phyllis is a trained nurse-midwife who originates from Proudstown, County Meath.
Sr. Phyllis has a very special gift for working with people who have special needs and has spent her time in Brazil working to secure a better of quality of life for people with disabilities. She has worked with groups such as the Fraternity for the Physically Handicapped, a national organisation in Brazil, and also L’Arche.
Fr Martin Barry SPS – Londiani, Kenya
Fr Martin Barry, a Kiltegan Father originally from Glanmire, Co Cork, has been ministering in Kenya for over forty years. Fr Martin was ordained in 1968 and has spent the last decade of his mission in Londiani, a small African village north of Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. Fr Martin is accompanied on his mission in the Diocese of Kericho by fellow Kiltegan Fathers, Brian Treacy and Con Ryan.
Fr Desmond Millar SPS – Turkana Desert, Kenya
Kiltegan Father, Des Millar, originates from Dublin and was ordained in 1969. Fr Des has devoted the last forty years to mission, spending his time in Turkana Desert, Lodwar Diocese in Kenya. Fr Des ministers from St. Lawrence’s Catholic Church, Nakwamoru, and is involved in pastoral work, education, aid work and health.
Fr Andy Campbell SVD – Accra, Ghana
Fr Andy Campbell, a Divine Word Missionary, was born in Crumlin, Dublin in 1946. Currently based in Accra, Fr Andy has been in Ghana since 1971 and has devoted his time to caring for and assisting lepers in the region. Approximately 18 years ago Fr Andy started an NGO called Lepers Aid, comprising of around 24 young people dedicated to assisting those with leprosy.
Sr. Fidelma Mahon FMSA – Mutare Diocese, Zimbabwe
Sr. Fidelma Mahon from County Dublin, completed her final profession to the Franciscan Missionary Sisters for Africa in 1957.
In 1961, Sr. Fidelma began her mission in Kenya where she spent many years teaching. Since then she has served in many locations the most recent of which is Zimbabwe where she has been since 2004.
