Aisling Ní Fhoghlú in Afraic Theas
“Do b’é mo mhian i gcónaí obair dheonach a dhéanamh thar lear.” Sin mar a scríobh Aisling Ní Fhoghlú as Corcaigh. “Ó m’óige i leith bhailigh mé airgead thar ceann riachtainisí áitiúla. Ghoill éagóir an domhain orm i gcónaí. D’oibrigh mo thuismitheoirí go deonach in ár gceantar agus bhronn siad coinsias soisialda orm. Thart ar seacht mbliana ó shin labhair mo mháthair liom faoi Viatores Christi. Eagraíocht é seo a chuireann oideachas ar fáil do dhaoine ar mian leo obair dheonach a dhéanamh thar lear. Chuaigh mé ar cheann de na cúrsaí a riaraíonn siad agus cuireadh an síol. Thóg sé cúpla bliain, mar sin féin, sul ar tháinig an síol faoi bhláth.”
Ins na blianta sin, fhaid a bhí an síol ag cur síos fréamhacha, thosaigh Aisling ag obair mar dhlíodóir i mBaile Átha Cliarth. Gach tráthnóna Aoine, d’oibrigh sí le Cumann Naoimh Uinsin de Póil i Sráid Clarendon. “Bhraith mé go minic” a deir Aisling “go mba é sin an obair ba luachmhaire i mo sheachtain.
An deis a thapú
“Ceithre bliana in a dhiaidh sin tháinig mé go dtí an Afraic Theas chun sé seachtainí a chaitheamh go deonach i dteach ar tugadh Home of Hope (Teaghlach an Dóchais) air. Áit chónaí agus ionad altramais do pháistí a bhí i mbaol (i gcontúirt) a bhí sa teach seo.
“Lean mé leis an dlí tar éis dom filleadh ar Éirinn, ach bhí mo chroí fágtha sa Afraic agam. Bhí droch bhail ar Éirinn an bhliain sin: ghlac mé leis an tairiscint a fuair mé éirghe as obair, agus shochraigh mé filleadh ar an Afraic ar feadh bliana le Viatores Christi.
Ar ais san Afraic Theas
“Roghnaigh mé an Afraic Theas mar go raibh cleachtadh agam ann. Bhí fhios agam cé leo a bheinn ag obair. San Home of Hope a thosaigh mé. Bhí mé ag obair le leanaí a bhí i gcruachás mar gheall ar an mhéid alcóil a d’ól na máithreacha fhaid a bhí siad sa bhroinn: bhíodh na créatúirí breoite, leonta fiú roimh teacht ar an saol dóibh. Rinne me dian staidéar ar na bealaí a b’fhearr chun freastal ar na leanaí seo; agus chuir mé gach ar fhoghlaim mé le chéile i láimhleabhar.”
“Níorbh é sin deire an scéil, ámh. Níorbh fhada go bhfuair muid amach na deacrachtachaí a bhí ag na páistí seo foghlaim sa ghnáth scoil. Bhunaigh muid scoil nua dóibh, an chéad scoil dá leithéid ar domhan. Thug muid Amathemba air: focal a chialaíonn Ár ndóchas i Xhosa, an teanga áitiúil. Faoi láthair tá mé ag obair mar bhainisteoir ar an scoil anseo sa Western Cape.”
Ag breathnú siar dí ar a saol san Afraic Theas go dtí seo, scríobh Aisling: “Tá an chéad bhliain sin iompaithe go trí bliana anois, agus braithim go bhfuil neart oibre le déanamh anseo go foil.” Seo mar a chríochnaigh sí: “Tá an t-ádh orm gur lean mé an cosán a léirigh Dia dom. Tar éis trí bliana is aoibheann Dia dhom.”

Shared/Multiple Intentional Masses
With less public Masses in St. Mary’s and given the wish of parishioners to request Mass for their intentions, you are offered the Friday 7.30pm for Shared or Combined intentions. Such has been the pastoral practice in Kerry urban parishes for some time and will hopefully facilitate our own parishioners if you so wish.
As the recommended stipend for an announced Mass in the Kerry Diocese is €20 which the celebrant receives, all extra offerings will be send by the Parish to the nominated charity of the Bishop of Kerry which is The Education of Priests and The Sick and Retired Kerry Priests’ Fund. All intentions, (once requested before Friday publication) will appear on the newsletter as usual. Enquiries, please contact 066-9151208.

Last year alone the Catholic people of Ireland sent €2,000,000 to missionary communities in need. Gura bhfada buan é. Bígí flaithiúil arís.
