Introducing the New Missal on Nov. 27th
What should we, as a faith community, reflect on as we prepare to use the new Missal?
We have been praying our current texts for over thirty-five years. Moving to new texts will be a challenge and will require that we exercise patience and support for one another. Priests and people, musicians and other involved in preparing the liturgy all need to work together to make the change as easy as it can be.
Ultimately we need to remember that the words of our liturgy are crucial – we pray as we believe. But when we pray the Mass we do more than recite words – those words are recited in the context of all the actions, symbols and people of the liturgy. As we work towards implementing the changes, may we keep in mind the bigger task of which the words of the Missal are a part: namely, the Mystery of our Faith, the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ made present for us in the Eucharist. Dear Candidates & Families,
We will soon begin the month of November with the feasts of All Saints (1 Nov) and All Souls (2 Nov). We remember the great examples of Christian life and we pray for our beloved dead, asking God to welcome them into His Heavenly Kingdom.
The saints are those men and women who followed Christ in this life and who are now in heaven praying for us. Each saint has a different story – some of them were priests and missionaries who brought the Word of God to people. Others were famous for working with the poor. Some gave their life as martyrs by choosing to face death rather than give up their faith. The fact that each saint is so different reminds us that even though we all have different gifts and talents, we are all called to be saints by serving God and following Christ in our own life.
There are thousands of saints whose names are known to us: Our Lady, St Joseph, St Patrick, St Brendan, etc… But there are countless millions of unknown saints who followed Christ faithfully, but whose names are forgotten. We remember them especially on Nov. 1st.
We pray for all the dead on Nov. 2nd. Through baptism, we are all made into Christ’s body, so while we can ask the prayers of the saints, we can also pray for the dead – asking that they may be fully cleansed from sin, so that they too can enter the fullness of joy in heaven.
This month of October is also the Month of Mission. We are asked to remember the work of missionaries throughout the world who bring the Good News of Jesus Christ and who carry out the mission of Christ by their care and compassion for the people they meet. Because we are all part of Christ’s Body, we have a responsibility to support one another, and in particular help those who are most in need. This year, candidates for Confirmation in the Diocese are asked to support the Children’s Project in Turkana, Kenya.
To do at home
· Make a ‘Sacred Space’ at home with your Confirmation Crucifix.
· Write a list of your family’s beloved dead. Keep one copy of the list in your Sacred Space, along with any memorial cards or other reminders of the dead you will be remembering during November. Bring another copy of the list to Mass on November 13th when we will pray for all our dead.
Carefully choose the Patron Saint whose name you will take. Complete the worksheet & choose a particular Christian Quality of that saint you wish to imitate.
NB: Please note next joint liturgy is on Nov. 13th.

Holy Souls – November Masses will be celebrated in our 3 Parish churches, in Dingle Hospital, Pobalscoil Corca Dhuibhne agus Coláiste Íde remembering all those named by you in our Parish November Lists.
You will find the purple coloured list in the envelope delivered to your homes this week.
Please fill in this list and return with your customary November Offering at your earliest convenience. Extra envelopes & lists are available at the back of the 3 Parish Churches or any envelope will suffice. The 7.30pm Mass of Wednesday November 2nd in St. Mary’s, Dingle will also be offered for the Holy Souls.

All parishioners who have died since Nov 1st 2010 will be especially remembered in Masses during the first week of November as above. All family members are invited to attend and at Guí an Phobail a family representative will light a commemorative candle as we name and pray for their faithful departed. Representatives are please asked to sit in the front seats. Please take the candle home at the end of Mass.
Parishioners who have lost a loved one, residing elsewhere, during that time are invited to notify the Parish Office if they also wish to commemorate their loved one by name in these memorial ceremonies. (Candles will be provided).

MISSION SUNDAY – “TOGETHER IN FAITH”
Each year Mission Sunday is celebrated throughout the world to raise awareness of the Church’s Mission, its universality and total inclusivity. Today the Church asks that all peoples and all nations work “together in faith”.
Once a year, on Mission Sunday, the Pope asks us to show our support for the missionary work in the younger Churches throughout the world, especially those in greatest need. Pope Benedict tells us “Faith is strengthened when it is given to others!”
Every one of our 1,762 Irish missionaries will tell you of the importance of the support they receive from the Irish people, both spiritually and financially. They feel a togetherness and connection with you at home as they go about their missionary work.
Mission Sunday is the one specific day annually we, as individuals, get the opportunity to show these wonderful missionaries that we are truly together with them in mission Today we demonstrate this clearly in two ways:
1. By prayer
2. By donating whatever we can to today’s Mission Collection.
All monies, every cent, collected today will be distributed universally to support some 1,100 mission Dioceses throughout the world. We understand that in these difficult economic times there are many pressures on our personal finances and ask you to please give as generously as you can.
