Introducing the New Missal
From the 1st Sunday of Advent, November 27th 2011, there will be a New Missal for use at Mass throughout the English speaking world. It contains some changes to the people’s parts of the Mass.
Next Sunday marks another step in the journey towards the use of the new edition of the Roman Missal on the First Sunday of Advent. From Sunday September 11th, all the missalettes in Ireland will include the new translations of the following texts: the people’s response to the greeting by the priest, “I confess,” the Gloria, the Apostles’ Creed and the acclamations for the Eucharistic Prayer as well as the text for the invitation to Communion. This gives all of us an opportunity to become familiar with the new changes, before we start praying them at Mass on November 27th 2011.
Is the Mass changing?
The structure of the Mass is not changing. The order and the actions of the Mass remain unchanged. The readings at Mass are not changed. However, with the introduction of the new edition of the Roman Missal throughout the English speaking world, we will all notice a change in how the Mass sounds. The translations of a number of our prayer texts from the original Latin have changed – sometimes by a particular word or in the word order. Prayers that we have become used to reciting by memory now have to be relearned. Prayers that we are used to hearing the priest say will sound different to us.
The style of language we will hear and pray may seem more formal to us and perhaps, in parts, more complex. But over time, with the praying of these texts, the sound of the Mass will again become familiar to us. (to be continued)

Matthew Seán, Liam Antaine agus Eimear.
Dingle Parish Pastoral Council acknowledges the souvenir gift brought back by our young pilgrims. The banner will be displayed in turn in our three churches during September. The Spanish text reads “Welcome, Holy Father, Bless us.
Fáilte, Benedict XVI, Beannaigh Sinn”.
World Youth Week happens ever 3 years and it brings young people from all over the world together. It is a celebration of young people of the Catholic Church .
“On Monday morning we left for Madrid ,
Eimear, Mathew Seán, Liam Anthony,
Among millions of youths to join in the fun,
As we went on our pilgrimage we all sang Alleluia, Alleluia
It was our anthem for the week ahead.
On Tuesday night we had our opening Mass,
To a crowd so big it was class
We saw the yank who played guitar with his toes,
The bishops showed they knew the score,
their lessons opened our minds to see all,
we sang Alleluia, Alleluia
On Wednesday night the Pope was in town,
1.5 million youths waited around
Not all of us had a great vantage point,
We could feel his presence as he gave us his blessing
Millions stood and sang Alleluia…..Alleluia.
Saturday was our big day,
We had our pilgrim walk to Esplanade , with our sleeping bags in hand ,
The extreme heat, followed by thunder and lightening, and finally floods,
Didn’t dampen our spirits as we walked on together
and we sang Alleluia ..Alleluia.
On Sunday we saw the best show of all,
Pope Benedict XVI spoke his wise words to all
We listened to His every word.
He spoke of human life,
Not to lose heart, to swim against the tide
And to face the obstacles of the 21st century.
It was a day of soul searching and reflection,
Our faith stronger and our spirits touched
The beauty of the week will stay with us for ever.
The Pope’s presence. Alleluia Alleluia”
(L. A. Ó Cathasaigh)
