Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Naomh Caitlín: Táim ag piocadh an ainm Caitlín i gcomhair mo chóineartú mar gurb é Caitlín ainm mo sheanmháthair agus is í Naomh Caitlín Naomh an Pharóiste Ceann Trá.
Rugadh naomh Caitlín i Cairo in Alexandria. Bhí feirm ag a h’athair agus bhí siad ana shaibhír. Bhí máthair agus athair Chaitlín in bprotastúnaigh.
Theastaigh uaithu go mbeadh Caitlín in protastúnach leis agus go bpósfaidh sí feirmeoir saibhír. Ach ní mar sin a theastaigh ó Chaitlín a saol a chaitheamh. Theastaigh ó Caitlín a bheith ina caitliceach agus a bheith ina beanrialta. Bhí athair Chaitlín ar buile, chuir sé í isteach fé ghlas sa bhfeirm agus níor lig sé amach í agus ní raibh aon bhia ná deoch aici.
Ach fós níor thug sí isteach. Theastaigh ó Chaitlín a bheith ina bean rialto. Chur athair Chaitlín í ar roth agus tharraing sé í. Maraíodh Caitlín agus chuir a h’athair í mbaraille í agus chuir sé amach sa bhfarraige í.
Lá amhain bhí beirt fhear ag piocadh phrata thiar i gCeann Trá. Chonaic siad baraille san uisce. Bhí athás an domhain orthu mar cheap siad gurb é baraille lán do ór is airgead a bhí ann. Thugadar an barraile suas go dtí an gaineamh ach nuair a d’oscail siad an baraille ní raibh aon ór ná airgead ach corp a bhí ann.
Naomh Caitlín a bhí ann ach ní raibh a fhios ag na bauchaillí gurb í Naomh Caitlín a bhí ann. Thugadar an corp sall go dtí an sáipéal i gCeann Trá. Nuair a bhí siad ag trasnú na h-abhann stop an uisce ag rith. Tháinig eagla ar na buachaillí. Bhí a fhios acu go raibh duine tabhachtach ann. Bhí aifreann acu do Chaitlín agus arís ar an slí tharnais stop an uisce ag rith. Cuireadh Caitlín siar i ngort ar an dtraigh.
Bliain ina ndhiaidh sin ar an lá céanna bhí na bheirt buachaillí ag piocadh phrataí. Tháinig solas mór geal agus tháinig cailín suas. Dúirt sí go raibh maith agat leo as aire a thabhairt di agus d’inis sí dóibh cérbh í féin.
Glaotar “Reilig Naomh Chaitlín” ar an reilig siar i gCeann Trá i ndiaidh Caitlín mar go raibh sí curtha ann agus tá scoil glaoite ina diaidh, thiar i gCill Mhic a’ Domhnaigh “Scoil Naomh Caitlín”. Is é sin scéal naomh Caitlín. Ceiliúradh Lá Caitlín i bhFionn Trá ar an 25ú Samhain. (Bunscoil Cheann Trá)

Fómhar na Farraige 2015
A special céad míle fáilte to all who join us for our 11.30am celebration of Fómhar na Farraige or The Harvest of the Sea. We extend our thanks to those who help organise this annual liturgy, those who prepare and decorate the Church, those who supply the wonderful display of fish, all those who contribute items for the procession and for the decoration of the Church. Buíochas to all who play a special part in the Fishermen’s Mass as we offer our thanks to the Lord and ask His blessing on all whose livelihood depends on the sea.
Those who bring up the gifts place before us symbols of the great harvest of fish and other products which come from the sea, as well as items representing different aspects of sea-faring life and marine activities. Others present the bread and wine which become the Body and Blood of Christ. Our readers, those who read prayers of the faithful and the reflection – proclaim the life-giving Word of the Lord.
Prayer of The Fisherman
Lord,
As we put out into the deep
We place ourselves into Your keep.

All that lies before us your grandeur
O blue-grey wave and water
Your sacred work of art.

Every fish that swims
Every lurking shell
Every coral of beauty
Beneath the surf and swell
Bears the imprint of Your name.

May this boat
Rise with the ebb and flow of each tide
And glide to the rhythm of Your heart
May no storm separate us from sheltering coves
May we never lose hope in Your eternal presence.

Calm the seas with Your gentle breeze
May dolphins dance and seagulls swoop
To a rich harvest.
May we see again the miracle of full nets
As we too cast out to starboard
As once You told Your fishermen.

May the night come calmly
Guiding us to a safe harbour
Where every lighthouse reaches the hidden depths of Your presence
Lighting the darkness of distant lives.

Lord take to Your Self
All who lie in the sleep of the sea
All souls lost in service
May love still shed a tear.

And when the sun is setting in gold across the bay
In You we find our anchor in You we rest and pray.

Come walk across the water
Come lead us through the dark
O fisherman of Galilee
Come be our morning star. (Fr. Liam Lawton)
