Our 3 Christmas Cribs
2014 Crib donations will go towards the work of Sr. Helen Ryder in Haiti and Fr. P. J. Fitzgerald, Kiltegan Missions, South Africa.
Dingle native and Kiltegan Priest Fr. P. J. Fitzgerald has spent over 40 years in Africa. Firstly, in Kenya and more recently in South Africa.
Our first Christmas Crib collection in 2008 was for Fr. Fitzgerald’s and Fr. Martin O’Connor’s mission in South Africa. They wrote to the Parish then:
“We have passed on some of the money to one of our Kiltegan Priests who is working in Zimbabwe, who was recently here in South Africa on a visit, – to purchase food for people there who have nothing. We have given the rest of the money to the sisters who are running AIDS/HIV and orphans projects in each of our two parishes. You can be sure that the money will be put to good use.”
In January 1989 the first Kiltegan priests arrived in the dioceses of Witbank and Tzaneen, both in the north-east Transvaal in South Africa.
A very important development for the Society in South Africa was the establishment in 2001 of Kwa Patrick, a residence for students who enrol in St Joseph’s Theological Institute in Cedara to study Philosophy as the second stage of their formation as priests. Students come from Kenya and Nigeria where they had spent two years of initial formation. Their presence in the country brought the vibrancy of youth to the region. Received to date: €2,399.17.

Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Pope Francis is:
• The first pope born outside of Europe since Pope Gregory III (731-741).
• The first pope from the Americas.
• The first Jesuit pope.
• The first pope since Pope Lando (913-914) to choose a name that has not already been used.
Where does Pope Francis say we can find joy?
After becoming pope, Francis wrote a book called Evangelii Gaudium (Latin for ‘The Joy of the Gospel’). This book explains what Pope Francis would like to do as pope, but most importantly it reminds us that we can find joy or happiness when we read the stories of Jesus in the Gospel. These stories tell us about how much he loves us and how he can fill our hearts with joy and love if we allow him in.
What is Pope Francis’ motto?
He has chosen the motto, ‘By having mercy, by choosing him.’
