Catholic Schools Week
Eanáir 25ú – 30ú
Is sa Scoil Chaitliceach …
• A bhíonn ministreacht agus misean Chríost go smior inti.
• A thógtar timpeallacht chomhbhách ina mbíonn cásmhaireacht atá fréamhaithe sa teagasc sóisialta Caitliceach ann, don uile dhuine.
• A thógtar timpeallacht shlán shona, áit ina mbíonn spreagadh ann don uile pháiste agus go gcuirtear ar a gcumas forbairt iomlán a dhéanamh ar an gcumas atá iontu mar dhaoine daonna uathúil, daoine a cruthaíodh ar dheilbh Dé.
• A lorgaítear ardchaighdeán oideachasúil agus an scoil bheith dílis go fóill don fhís agus don mhodh oibre faoi leith a bhaineann leis.
• A bhíonn comhluadar uileghabhálach measúil a chuireann fáilte roimh an uile dhuine óg, is cuma an mbaineann siad le haicme chreidimh nó nach mbaineann.
• A thugtar aitheantas don ról atá ag na tuismitheoirí mar chéad oidí maidir le cúrsaí creidimh agus cuirtear deiseanna ar fáil dóibh bheith páirteach i saol na scoile.
• A chuirtear chuige i gcomhar leis na tuismitheoirí agus le pobal an pharóiste chun lóchrann an dóchais a adhaint.
• A chuirtear clár theagasc creidimh ar fáil a dhearbhaíonn agus a dhoimhníonn an tuiscint a bhíonn ag na páistí maidir leis an gcreideamh Caitliceach ionas go mbeidh ar chumas an uile dhuine acu bheith chomh deisbhéalach faoin gcreideamh agus a bhíonn maidir le gnéithe eile an churaclaim.
• A chothaítear an tuiscint agus an meas a bhíonn ag an dalta ar shaol sacraimintiúil na hEaglaise.
• A chuirtear na siombailí a bhaineann lenár dtraidisiún saibhir Caitliceach ar taispeáint.
• A chaitear am mar chomhluadar scoile ann, ag machnamh, ag urnaí, i ndeasghnátha, ag ceiliúradh na hEocairiste agus na sacraimintí eile, chun forbairt a dhéanamh ar shaol spioradálta an uile dhuine i bpobal na scoile.
Catholic Schools: Places of Faith and Learning
1. Welcome is about the welcome offered in Catholic schools, reaching out in Jesus to embrace all.
2. Word is about the ways in which God speaks to us through our faith and experience of school life.
3. Wisdom is about Catholic schools helping students move beyond information to knowledge, wisdom
and fullness of life.
4. Worship is about living according to our ethos where our lives are motivated by love, just as God’s life is.
5. Witness is about our way of being in the world as Catholics – who we are, what we do, how and why we do it.
Called to Serve
Catholic Schools Week 2015 begins on this Sunday, January 25th, the Third Sunday in Ordinary Time. This is the seventh year of celebrating the wonderful contribution that our Catholic schools, both primary and post-primary, make to the mission of the Church in our local faith communities and throughout the
wider Church. It is only fitting that we take this opportunity to celebrate that work when we gather as
a worshipping community at the beginning of Catholic Schools Week, and that we consider other ways in which the parish community can honour and support the school community during this week-long celebration.
Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Rosa Parks
On 1 December 1955, Rosa Parks, a black seamstress, boarded a bus in Montgomery, Alabama, and took a seat in the first row behind the section reserved “for whites only”. The driver then demanded that she give up her seat to a white passenger and she refused. Rosa’s decision was both courageous and dangerous. She was immediately arrested, an action that sparked off a series of protest by the black community, beginning with a boycott of all buses the following Monday. Negro taxi-drivers set up a ‘dime-a-drive’ service for all negro passengers. This protest led to the founding of the Civil Rights Movement headed by Rev. Martin Luther King Jnr.
