CORPUS CHRISTI PROCESSION 2013
Dingle Parish Pastoral Council and Liturgy Group pay sincere tribute to all who participated in all our celebrations leading up to Corpus Christi and on the Feast Day itself. Despite last Sunday’s inclement weather we held our Annual Eucharistic Procession indoors and salute all parishioners and helpers who decorated and prepared shrines and altars in the town and Town Park. The presence of our First Communicants, Altar Servers, Girl Guides, St. Mary’s Parish Choir and Mississippi Ocean Spring Chorale added colour to the pageantry of the occasion. “Moladh go deo le Dia”
Ocean Spring Choir
The Ocean Springs Chorale, Mississippi Gulf Coast, USA is an interdenominational ensemble whose mission is to share the good news of God’s love through choral music. We were honoured as they shared in our Corpus Christi liturgies in Lios Póil and St. Mary’s. Their parting message to us all reads:
“Thank You for your gracious hospitality. We have enjoyed our visit to your beautiful country.”
Special Eucharistic Adoration Hour
Míle buíochas to all who attended the Eucharistic Adoration on Friday evening May 31st and on Sunday last in Séipéal Naomh Eoin Baiste, Lios Póil in response to our Holy Father Pope Francis’ special appeal to spend this hour in adoration and prayers as part of The Year of Faith. “Watch and Pray”
Bliain an Chreidimh – Our Patron Saints
Laochra an Chreidimh No.45.
St. Michael The Archangel – Michael means “who is like God”. Michael is mentioned three times in the Book of Daniel. Daniel was once a great prince who stood up for the children of his people.
The idea that Michael was the advocate of the Jews became so prevalent that in spite of the rabbinical prohibition against appealing to angels as intermediates between God and his people. Michael came to occupy a certain place in the Jewish liturgy.
In the New Testament Michael leads God’s army against Satan’s forces. This is in the Book of Revelation, where during the war in heaven he defeats Satan. In the Epistle of Jude Michael is specifically referred to as an “archangel”. Christian sanctuaries to Michael appeared in the fourth century, when he was first seen as a healing angel, and over time as a protector and the leader of the army of God against the forces of evil. By the sixth century, devotions to Archangel Michael were widespread both in the Eastern and Western Churches. Over times, teaching on Michael began to vary among Christians denominations. His feast day Michaelmas Day September 29th also commemorates the archangels Gabriel and Raphael.
Michael is special to me because my Mom’s Dan was called Michael. He was my grandfather. He died of cancer before I was born and I was told that I would have got along very well with him and that’s the main reason why I picked St. Michael. Another reason I picked St. Michael was because St. Michael pushed Satan down to where he belongs and saved heaven and I like that story. I picked St. Michael as my saint and I choose his name for confirmation because he is great hero of mine. (Séamus – Scoil Iognáid Rís)

Guí an Phobail
Priest: Lord Jesus, you are the source and lover of life. Reawaken in us respect for your gift of creation.
1. For Pope Francis, for Bishop Liam, in thanksgiving for his leadership of the diocese and our Bishop-Elect Raymond that the Lord may guide him in his ministry among us. Lord, hear us.
2. We ask the Lord of the Harvest to give us favourable weather for all our farmers.
3. Help us to see in each child the marvellous work of our Creator. Open our hearts to welcome every child as a unique and wonderful gift.
4. Guide the work of doctors, nurses and midwives. May the life of a mother and her baby in the womb be equally cherished and respected.
5. Help those who make our laws to uphold the uniqueness and sacredness of every human life, from the first moment of conception to natural death.
6. Those who trusted in the Lord now sleep in the Lord. Give refreshment, rest and peace to all whose faith is known to you alone.
Paidreacha roimh na Scrúduithe
Lord,
I ask You to help me at this stressful time. I feel that so much depends on these exams. I feel that in addition to carrying my own burdens, I am carrying the expectations of so many others – family, friends, society.
Help me to keep calm at this time, so that I can think straight and apply myself to the best of my ability. Let Your Spirit help and inspire me, so that I can remember all that I have studied and put together my answers in the best way. Guide me in all my ways, so that I will find fulfilment in You. Amen.
