Aifreann Ranganna na hArdteiste 2015
Beirimid buíochas le Dia anois, lenár dtuismitheoirí, múinteoirí foireann na scoile agus cairde a chabhraigh linn ar ár dturas go dtí seo, agus anois stopaimis ar feadh tamaill agus déanaimis machnamh ar an dturas seo.
Turas beannaithe naofa is ea bhúr saol. Turas is ea é ó bhreith go bás, ó thuras amháin go ceann eile agus lena linn ag athrú, ag fás, ag cur aithne ‘s ag síor fhoghlaim i rith bhur saol ionas go mbeidh sibh ábalta rudaí a d’fheiscint go soiléir, go domhain agus go mbeidh sibh ábalta déileáil le dúshláin go misniúil agus cróga.
Bígí sásta ag creidigh ionaibh fhéin.
Tá sibh ar an mbóthar ceart, san áit díreach gur cheart díbh a bheith, agus ón lá inniu amach beidh sibh ag dul chun chinn ag cur le bhur scéal. Scéal ina mbeidh gaois, foghlaim, dínit, cneasú agus grá. Ní tharlóidh an scéal seo thar oíche agus uaireanta beidh sé deacair, mar sin, iarraimid inniu ar Dhia sibh a threorú agus a bheith in bhúr láthair ar bhúr dturas i gcónaí.
Go cuireadh áilleacht Dé iontas oraibh go deo na ndeor.

Prayer for Preparation to Study
Lord, I know that you are with me and that you love me.
Give me peace of mind as I prepare for this time of study.
Help me to focus on my books and notes,
and keep me free from all distractions so that I will make the best use of this time that is available to me.
Give me insight that I might understand
what I am studying,
and help me to remember it when exam time comes.
Above all, I thank you for the ability to be able to study and for the many gifts and talents you have given me.
Help me always to use them in such a way that
they honour youand do justice to myself. Amen.

Laochra an Chreidimh II – Patrons
Blessed Oscar Romero (1917 – 1980)
Pope Francis declared Archbishop Romero a Martyr who died in witness to the Faith and will beatify him this Pentecost weekend. Oscar was born in 1917 into a large but poor family. Unable to afford his schooling his father had him apprenticed to a carpenter at age 13. Oscar was determined to become a priest and followed his dream despite many obstacles. Ordained in 1942 he spent 25 years in the Diocese of San Miguel and was convinced about the power of radio in bringing the word of God to all. His main pastoral work was with the poor, the prisoners, organizing catechism classes and founding a branch of Alcoholic Anonymous. He was seen as a great preacher but very conservative. So much so he was chosen to become Bishop in 1974 and later in 1977 appointed Archbishop of San Salvador the troubled country’s capital.
This was a time of major social unrest in that small Central American State where a 2% ruling class owned and controlled 60% of the land mass. After Haiti it was the poorest nation in the West. Between October 1979 to December 1981 some 30,000 politically motivated killings occurred. It was on the occasion of the assassination of his Jesuit friend Fr. Rutilio Grande on March 2nd 1977 that Oscar Romero began to fearlessly denounce the huge injustices meted out by the ruling classes on his suffering people. 100,000 people attended Fr. Grande’s Requiem Mass and from that day on until his own murder while celebrating Mass, Oscar Romero preached the Gospel of Justice, peace and reconciliation.
Following his assassination on March 24th 1980 world attention focused on El Salvador. Representing Trócaire, Bishop Eamon Casey attended the funeral on March 30th in the San Salvador Cathedral when the military killed 42 mourners and injured 200. One week earlier Oscar Romero spoke directly to local police and soldiers: “I beg you, I implore you, I order you … in the name of God, stop the repression”. The voice of the prophet martyr was ignored but his voice and Gospel message live on.
