Prayer For The Dead

God, thank you for the special people in our lives
whom we are remembering here today.
We thank you that you are a compassionate God
who walks with us in our dark moments
of grief and loneliness.

We are thankful for all who continue
to love and support us in our grief.
Continue to be a light for us,
giving us hope,
direction and courage.

May we now live our lives treasuring
the memories of those special people
we have known and loved
and help us to bring light
and hope to others.

We make this prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen

Smaoineamh
In a world of so much social and political turmoil, people of faith will often be regarded as naïve and ineffective and irrelevant. However, we must not be afraid of scepticism and cynicism, but trust that God will give us the strength to hold our ground.
Jesus said to his disciples, ‘Do not be frightened.’ One would not be human if one didn’t feel fear when danger threatens. It’s not fear but the overcoming of fear that is the question. ‘A person without fear is no hero; the person who overcomes fear is.’
Jesus says: ‘By your endurance you will gain your souls.’
