Mission Sunday, October 19th
Today is Mission Sunday. It is the day when we are being asked to dig into our hearts to assist the young local church overseas. We are being called to play our part in helping to bring the word of God to those who most hunger for it in the form of support for our many young churches.
‘That they may have life’ is our theme for Mission Month and as such our spiritual and financial offerings are crucial for the work of the Church overseas. Your generous contribution today will be sent in its entirety to support our many mission projects. We can’t do it without you. Large or small, it makes a difference and thank you for your help.

All-Ireland Midfielder Anthony Maher
“Missionaries continue to work in some of the most volatile, disadvantaged and challenging countries in the world and they do so selflessly and tirelessly. They work in education, provide help and care for people with Aids, they help to provide access to clean water, social justice programmes, human rights programmes, everything – right across the board.”
The Kerry midfielder has thrown his weight behind this year’s ‘mission month’ of October, saying that it is one of the most worthy causes in the country.
“We all appreciate that the people of Ireland are going through a very difficult time economically with lots of demands, but even a little means a lot in developing countries,” he said. (The Irish Catholic, Oct 9th, Part II)

Guí an Phobail
1. Ar Dhomhnach Domhanda na Misean seo tugaimid ár ngrá, ár dtacaíocht agus ár bpaidreacha do gach pobal Críostaí ar fud an domhain. Iarraimid ar Dhia a bheannachtaí is fear a dhoirteadh orainn i dtreo is gur féidir linn lúcháir an tSoiscéil agus a bheatha nua a thabhairt linn lenár dteagmhálacha laethúla le pobal Dé. A Thiarna, éist linn.

2. Guímis ar son misinéirí: ar son na pobail Chríostaí a sheol iad agus ar son na comhluadair a ghlac agus a chuir fáilte rompu. Go mbeannaí Dia ár misinéirí uile agus go mbeannaí sé freisin iad siúd atá ina misinéirí chugainn.

3. Guímis ar son siúd ar domhan atá ag fulaingt éagóir agus dóibh siúd atá ina n-íospartaigh d’aon chineál foréigin. Tabhair do chompord agus do shíocháin dóibh agus cabhraigh linn trínár n-iarrachtaí misiniúla an domhan a dhéanamh níos fearr do chách.

4. Guímis ar son ár dteaghlaigh féin ach go háirithe iad go léir atá ag ullumhú le haghaidh an Chéad Comaoineach agus Cóineartú. Guímid ar son daoine atá tinn, faoi bhrú nó in aon ghá.

5. Guímis ar son an phobail seo bailithe le chéile sa chreideamh. Táimid buíoch dár gcairde sa chreideamh a thugann tacaíocht dúinn ar ár n-aistear chuig Íosa – foinse don chompord, don leigheas agus don bheatha.

6. Guímis ar son ár misinéirí nach maireann agus ar son ár marbh ar fad, agus go háirithe iad siúd a gheobhaidh bás ina n-aonar an lá seo. Cuir fáilte rompu isteach i solas do ríochta a Thiarna agus tabhair an bheatha shíoraí dóibh.

7. As the Extraordinary Synod on the Family concludes today in Rome, we pray for families; may they be places of communion and prayer.
A Thiarna, bí ceansa agus éist linn.

Blessed Pope Paul VI
Pope Francis will beatify Pope Paul VI in Rome this Sunday October 19th. We publish a beautiful reflection from that intrepid Vicar of Christ on Earth.
‘The secret of the lay apostolate is to know how to love … those nearby and those afar; love our own country and those of others; love our friends and our enemies; love Catholics, Protestants, Anglicans, the indifferent; love Muslims, pagans, atheists … love our own times, our modern civilisation, techniques, art, sport, our world … let us love it with the heart of Christ.’
Blessed Pope Paul VI also said, “The Rosary is a compendium of the Faith”.
Gospel Machnamh on Mission Sunday
Today’s Gospel speaks about giving to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God. The message is that we are called to be good citizens of the countries and societies where we live, while at all time giving priority to our relationship with God. That relationship is made possible by the gift of Faith. We thank God that we have received that gift ourselves, and we do what we can to share that gift both locally and globally. Mission Sunday is part of that sharing. Only God can give us fullness of life. Today we pray that we may have that fullness of life and we may respond generously to the call of Mission Sunday, so that others may have that fullness of life also, from the rising to the setting of the sun.
‘Even the weakest and most vulnerable, the sick, the old, the unborn and the poor, are masterpieces of God’s creation, made in his own image, destined to live forever, and deserving of the utmost reverence and respect’. Pope Francis
Mission Prayer
Christ has no body now on earth but yours,
no hands but yours, no feet but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
Christ’s compassion is to look out to the world.

Yours are the feet by which
he is to go about doing good.
And yours are the hands
by which he is to bless us now. (St. Teresa of Avila)
