Corporal Works of Mercy

The works of mercy are charitable actions by which we come to the aid of our neighbour in his spiritual and bodily necessities. Instructing, advising, consoling, comforting, are spiritual works of mercy, as are forgiving and bearing wrongs patiently. The corporal works of mercy consist especially in feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, clothing the naked, visiting the sick and imprisoned, and burying the dead. Among all these, giving alms to the poor is one of the chief witnesses to fraternal charity: it is also a work of justice pleasing to God.

An Deochaineacht i nDeoise Chiarraí

Tá ministreacht na deochaineachta á bunú i nDeoise Chiarraí.  I nGníomhartha na nAspal roghnaíodh seachtar fear creidiúnacha chun foirithint ar an bpobal.  Mhol Dara Comhairle na Vatacáine go n-athbhunofaí an deochaireacht mar mhinistreacht.  Cabhraíonn deochain ar shlite éagsúla i bparóistí.

(a)        Altóir (ag cabhrú leis an sagart ag ceiliúradh na hEocairiste; ceiliúradh baiste; i gceannas searmanais adhlachta.)

(b)            Briarthar Dé (fógairt an tsoiscéil, ag tabhairt an Homaile agus irl.)

Applicants should be men of faith and good character, disposed and willing to give the required time and effort to the Diaconate Formation. Macnamh na Seachtaine

Ó Dhara Comhairle na Vatacáine i leith, tá an deochaineacht athbhunaithe ag an Eaglais Laidineach ‘mar chéim dhílis bhuan den chliarlathas’, san áit a raibh sí coinnithe slán ag Eaglaisí an Oirthir riamh anall. Sochar mór le haghaidh mhisiún na hEaglaise is ea an deochaineacht bhuan seo, ar féidir a thíolacadh d’fhir phósta. Is amhlaidh is cui agus is fóinteach dóibh siúd atá i mbun na ministreachta is dual do dheochaine, bíodh sin i ngnóthaí liotúirgeacha nó tréadacha nó in oibreacha sóisialta nó carthanacha, ‘go ndéanfaí comhfhortú orthu leis an leagan sin na lámh a seachadadh ó aimsir na n-aspal i leith agus go nascfaí níos dlúithe leis an altóir iad, ionas go mba éifeachtaí iad i mbun a ministreachta, trí ghrásta sacraimintiúil na deochaineachta’.

Celtic Blessing for Hospitality

I saw a stranger yestreen,

I put food in the eating place

drink in the drinking place

music in the listening place

and in the sacred name of the Triune

He blessed myself and my house

my cattle and my dear ones

and the lark said in her song

often, often, often

goes the Christ in the stranger’s guise.
