Pilgrimage to Northumbria

An Díseart

Sunday 17 – Sunday 24 July 2011

The Pilgrimage will follow the footsteps of Aidan and the Irish monks from Iona who in 635 AD initiated a mission to the Kingdom of Northumbria. Within 30 years they established the Church as a centre for missionary outreach to the rest of England and to the Continent of Europe.

The Pilgrimage ex Cork will take us from Lindisfarne to Whitby; from the wonderful Romanesque Cathedral of Durham to the spectacular Gothic York Minster; from Aidan’s Parish Church and Oswald’s Castle Bamburgh to Cuthbert’s Church on the Farne Islands; from Bede’s Monastery to the “World of St Bede” in Jarrow and should prove an inspirational experience. Group limited to 25, Cost is €700.

For further details please contact Fr. Jim at jimsheehy@diseart.ie; mobile phone no: 0862625498 or Isabel Bennet at isbennet@iol.ie; phone 9159012 or An Díseart at: 9152476.

Your Valentine and Getting Married

Practical Tips

  • The ceremony is prepared with the priest who will celebrate the wedding and conduct the rehearsal arranged in conjunction with the Parish Office. In the event of marriage to a baptised non-Catholic or to an unbaptised person please note the two alternative sensitive liturgies “Celebrations of Marriage outside Mass”. A complimentary copy of “The Celebration of Marriage” is given when you make your booking.
  • We recommend all Catholics to avail of the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) in preparation for your special Sacrament of which you are the ministers conferring the sacrament on each other.
  • The proposed sacred music and hymns must be on the lines  approved by the Kerry Diocesan guidelines. Please complete and return the completed list of music and hymns to the Parish office before the rehearsal.
  • Flowers and plants should be used with discretion in discussion with the Parish Office. Flower arrangers should never affix arrangements with damaging adhesive and are asked to remove all left over materials. Water-based arrangements should not be placed on carpet areas while oasis-based arrangements may.
  • We acknowledge and thank the generosity of all couples who leave their flowers to adorn our Parish sanctuaries and shrines.
  • The use of candles and naked flame outside of the sanctuary area is strictly forbidden in the interest of health and safety regulations..
  • The introduction of additional carpeting is prohibited on grounds of insurance considerations.
  • Rehearsals, practices and flower arranging may not take place immediately before Requiem Liturgies or during regular religious services, or Eucharistic Adoration. (Tues and Weds 10am-10pm; Fridays 10.30-11.30am in St. Mary’s.)
  • Should you wish to have Altar Servers, please inform the Parish Office in advance.
  • We thank patrons for not littering the church or church grounds with confetti, rice, petals, etc.
  • Out of consideration for all concerned the bride is asked to arrive on time as undue delay inconveniences everybody.

Olltoghchán – Dualgais na Saoránach

2239 Is é dualgas na saoránach a gcion a dhéanamh mar aon leis na húdaráis shibhialta ar mhaithe le leas na sochaí i spiorad na fírinne, na córach, na comhpháirtíochta agus na saoirse. An grá tíre agus umhlóid na hathartha, is de dhualgas na hadmhála comaoine iad agus d’ord na carthanachta. Éilíonn an ghéillsine do na húdaráis dhlisteanacha agus freastal an leasa choitinn, éilíonn sin ar shaoránaigh an beart is dual dóibh a chaitheamh i saol chomhluadar na polaitíochta.

2240 Is den ghéillsine don údarás agus den chomhfhreagracht sa leas coiteann an dualgas morálta chun cánacha a íoc, an ceart vótála a chur i ngníomh agus an tír a chosaint.

2242 Tá oibleagáid ó choinsias ar an saoránach gan géilleadh d’orduithe na n-údarás sibhialta nuair atá na proiceaptaí seo i gcontrárthacht le héileamh na moráltachta, le bunchearta na pearsan daonna nó le teagasc an tSoiscéil. Is féidir ceart a sheasamh don easumhlaíocht d’údaráis shibhialta nuair atá a n-éileamh i gcontrárthacht le héileamh an cheartchoinsiasa trí idirdhealú a dhéanamh idir an umhlóid do Dhia agus an umhlóid don chomhluadar polaitiúil. ‘Íocaigí le Céasar na nithe is le Céasar agus le Dia na nithe is le Dia’ (Mt. 22, 21). ‘Is córa dúinn umhlú do Dhia ná do dhaoine’ (Gníomh 5, 29).

2255 Is é is dualgas do na saoránaigh comhoibriú leis na cumhachtaí sibhialta i bhfoirgniú na sochaí le meanma na fírinne, na córach, na comhpáirtíochta agus na saoirse.

Your Time and Talent

European Year of Volunteers was launched this week by President Mary McAleese where she said “Mother Teresa once said that volunteers are unpaid not because their work is worthless but because it is priceless”.

We would urge people who have spare time on hands to give it generously to the many voluntary organisations in our own community. Please consider giving one hour of your time each month to the cleaning of St. Mary’s Church as we require more volunteers to complete our rota.  Contact our Parish Office if you would like to become part of our devoted meitheal.

Ar scáth a chéile maireann Pobal Dé.
