RTÉ Radio Broadcast Masses for the Sick

Dear Rev Father,

Rather belatedly, I just wanted to say a huge “Thank you” to yourself and all those involved in the wonderful Masses from Dingle.

I know that three weeks of live broadcasting is a very big ask of any church, especially in holiday time, when the numbers and talent base are depleted. But it didn’t show. Instead, you brought a wonderful glimpse of the Kingdom (in both senses of the word) into the homes of our listeners.

Tucked away on Longwave and Digital platforms, the value of these radio worship broadcasts can sometimes get overlooked. It shouldn’t do. For many listeners, they are a spiritual life-line – and that’s not just the infirm or the imprisoned: the captive audience. From a broadcasting point of view, broadcasts like this are what help RTE to show that Ireland is a community – a kit of many rich and varied parts, for which, just occasionally, we provide the glue. When other “parts” get to hear who you are and what you do, it enriches their lives. It’s well worth the effort and preparation that I know goes into these liturgies. So, thank you.

The only problem for you is that, now we know you’ll do a good job, you can be sure we’ll be back again! But I’ll let you recover first.

Sincere best wishes,

Roger Childs, Editor,

Religious Programmes, RTE, Donnybrook.

Macnamh na Seachtaine

“Seo é fíorchleachtadh an chreidimh atá glan agus gan smál i láthair Dé agus an Athar:

cuairt a thabhairt ar na dílleachtaí agus ar na baintreacha in am a ngátair agus gan ligean

don saol thú féin a thruailliú.” (N. Séamus 1:27)

Beannú Tí

Go mbeannaí Dia an teach seo

 óna bhun go dtí a bharr,

Go mbeannaí sé gach fardoras,

gach cloch agus gach clár;

Go mbeannaí sé an teaghlach,

An bord ar a leagtar bia,

Go mbeannaí sé gach seomra i gcomhair shámhchodladh na hoíche.

Go mbeannaí sé an doras a osclaímid go fial,

Don strainséar is don bhochtán

chomh maith lenár ngaol;

Go mbeannaí sé na fuinneoga

a ligeann chugainn an léas,

Ó sholas geal na gréine,

na gealaí is na réalt.

Go mbeannaí sé na frathacha in airde

os ár gcionn,

Is fós gach balla daingean atá

inár dtimpeall inniu;

Go bhfana síocháin dá réir sin dár

gcomharsana, cion is grá,

Go mbeannaí Dia an mhuirín seo agus á gcoinneáil slán ó bhaol,

Is go stiúra sé sinn uile

go dtí a ríbhrugh féin.

(Tobar an Dúchais: Béaloideas as Conamara agus Corca Dhuibhne in eagar ag Pádraig Ó Héalaí agus Lochlainn Ó Tuairisg. Published by An Sagart.)

Ní mór don teaghlach maireachtáil ar dhóigh go gcuireann a chuid ball eolas ar aire agus cúram na n-óg agus na sean, na n-easlán agus na n-éalangach, agus na mbocht. Is iomaí sin teaghlach ann nach acmhainn dóibh in amanna a leithéid sin de chúram a sholáthar. Is ar dhaoine eile, ar theaghlaigh eile a thagann sé ansin, agus go tánaisteach ar an tsochaí, riar a dhéanamh ar a ngátar: ‘Seo é an creideamh atá glan agus gan smál I láthair Dé agus an Athar: cuairt  a thabhairt ar na dílleachtaí agus ar na baintreacha in am a ngátair agus gan ligean don saol thú féin a thruailliú’. (Séam. 1, 27).
