Our Parish Mission 2010

Redemptorist Frs. Séamus Enright and Seán Duggan will visit our Parish again on Thursday June 10th next in Teach na Sagart at 8pm. We invite along all parishioners who met with them on their previous visits and any others who would like to join us, as we work to continue to design and plan our Parish Mission (Nov. 6th – 13th).

Read all about Mission in Ardfert

Fr Noel Kehoe, CSSR reports on a Mission in a Kerry parish with a rich Christian history.

“If any parish can boast about its long history of Christian faith, Ardfert in Co. Kerry has nearly 1,500 years to look back on. Recently, that is exactly what the parish has been doing … looking back and drawing inspiration from its sources and its rich history. It was within this context that a Parish Mission was conducted in Ardfert and Kilmoyley by Frs. Noel Kehoe, Derek Meskell, Br. Tony Rice and Michelle O’Sullivan. Michelle is part of the Scala community in Cork.

The Mission was a great event for both the parish and the missioners. With masses in the morning and an evening Mission service in both churches, more and more people attended as the week progressed.

One interesting aspect of this mission was the involvement of the two national schools. As well as visiting them, Br. Tony and Michelle worked with the Communion and Confirmation classes. Each school had an opportunity to organise one of the morning masses and, of course, each night after the service, they had a chance to teach their communities the new ‘action’ songs they had learnt. So enthusiastic were they that one lady was heard to remark, “Years ago, our parents dragged us out to the Mission. Now it’s the children who are dragging the parents.”

In a world that is so busy, it can be hard to find times and places to experience the presence of God in one’s life. The mission offered just that, and once again the ancient parish of Ardfert and Kilmoyley became a great centre of witness to the faith in a new age.

Féile na Tríonóide

Ár nAthair,

Cruthaitheoir na n-uile

Ealaíontóir is file,

Ag cruthú leis an mbriathar

Áit chónaithe an duine.

A Íosa, Slánaitheoir na n-uile,

Cantaire is duine,

Ag ofráil le do bhriathra

Lúcháir na fírinne.

A Spioraid,

Is dán dúinn uile

Ó Dhia do duine

Ag athbheochaint ár gcaint

Chun beatha na cruinne.

Sinne gur dán dúinn bheith beo

Is gairm dúinn bheith ag éisteacht le cluas is le croí; Is le gach uile créatúr bheith ag rá

Glór don Athair, don Mhac is don Spiorad Naomh.

(Screadfaidh na Clocha Amach: Micheál de Liostún)

Is í rúndiamhair na Tríonóide Ró-Naofa rúndiamhair láir an chreidimh agus na beatha críostaí. Is í rúndiamhair Dé ann féin í. Mar sin, is í is foinse do rúndiamhra eile an chreidimh ar fad, an lóchrann a shoilsíonn iad. Is í an teagasc is bunúsaí agus is eisintiúla íde ‘chéimse fhírinní an chreidimh.’ ‘Níl i stair iomlán an tslánaithe ach stair na slí agus na meán trína bhfoilsíonn an tAon Fhíor-Dhia amháin, Athair, Mac agus Spiorad Naomh, é féin, trína dtugann sé chun athmhuintearais leis, agus a n-aontaíonn leis, na daoine a thugann a gcúl leis an pheaca.’                (324 Caiticiosma na hEaglaise Caitlicí)

A Hurler’s Prayer

Grant me, O Lord, a hurler’s skill

With strength of arm and speed of limb,

Unerring eye for the flying ball

And courage to match them what ‘er befall

May my aim be steady, my stroke be true,

My actions manly, my misses few;

And no matter what way the game may go

May I part in friendship with every foe,

When the final whistle for me is blown

And I stand at last at God’s judgement throne,

May the great Referee when he calls my name,

Say ‘You hurled like a man; you played the game.’
