Do This In Memory – Déanaigí É Seo i gCuimhne Our next joint liturgy will be on next weekend, February 13th and 14th. Please bring your candles and place them in the Sacred Space in church. All families are asked to occupy the front seats please. Confirmation Pledge & Temperance Sunday We continue to pray for our candidates preparing for confirmation and their parents as we invite them to discuss together the dangers of the abuse of alcohol and other drugs. Candidates for Confirmation will have the opportunity to take the ‘Pledge’ on the weekend of the First Sunday of Lent (20th/21st February). Next Sunday (14th Feb) is Temperance Sunday when we are invited to reflect on the value of moderation in our approach to the pleasures offered by created goods, and alcohol in particular: Alcohol confronts us with our own frailty and weakness. Even those who are not addicted need the support of a higher power in the journey through life if we are to avoid the perils of addiction. We need the support of friends, of family and of God. Indeed, there may be people around us who need our support. The love and support of God is mediated through people just like us when we reach out to others, bringing God’s love and care into our world. (From The Challenge of Moderation – Irish Bishop’s Pastoral Letter 2007). Bring Back Raidió na Gaeltachta Masses All Parishioners and concerned Community organisations and committees are earnestly urged to raise their voices in requesting the return of a much valued practice and weekly Broadcasting Service now abruptly ended. In mid-January Radio na Gaeltachta dropped this bombshell of cutting back live broadcast of Sunday Mass to once monthly. This adversely affects many of our housebound sick right across the country together with our working fishermen and many Irish exiles. We acknowledge the support of journalists Ted Creedon, Anne Lucey and Donal Hickey in their recent “Kerryman”, “Irish Times” and “Irish Examiner” reports. We continue to seek the return of the Aifreann Dé gach Domhnach and hail the great work of all our Raidió na Gaeltachta staff down the years. Therefore, please show your support for this service and those who have been faithfully providing it. Our own readers, choirs, musicians and clergy deem it a wonderful privilege and honour to co-operate in bringing Holy Mass to all Raidió na Gaeltachta listeners at home and abroad. Letter from South Africa Dear Editor, “Due to ill-health I have been listening to Aifreann an Domhnaigh on Raidió na Gaeltachta. Unfortunately, it is no longer available…….” Brian P. Ó Cinnéide, “Irish Independent” 2nd Feb. Please write, text phone and lobby the relevant authorities, remember the sean-fhocal, “Ní luach go hAifreann d’éisteacht” “More precious than anything is hearing Mass”. Castlegregory G.A.A. Abú We congratulate our neighbouring Club who face Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo in the All-Ireland Junior Club Final on Sunday 14th February next in Páirc an Chrócaigh. We wish them every success and hope the spirit of Pat ‘Aeroplane’ O’Shea, who drove Kerry to Croke Cup and two All-Ireland victories 1913 and 1914, will inspire the Castlegregory team. Let us cheer once again for the green and the gold, For Kerry’s fair daughters, her sons ever bold – By the Bann and the Lagan, the Liffey and Lee, Their names are as famed as in peerless Tralee! A cheer for the dear ones, who’ve strayed o’er the foam; A prayer for the brave ones, whose dust rest at home – One final hurrah for the dauntless fifteen Who vanquished all Ireland in nineteen-thirteen! (In Praise of Heroes: Jimmy Smyth) Ministers of The Eucharist Iarrtar ortsa an litir seo leanas a léamh go cúramach i dtreo go mbeidh tú in ann bheith lán-pháirteach inár bhfeachtas chun daoine breise d’fháil san saothar rí-thábhachtach sa pharóiste. ‘Anois teacht an Earraigh,’ we invite you to do your very best to respond to our parish programme as we endeavour to increase the number of Ministers of the Eucharist on our parish teams at Séipéil Naomh Caitlín, Naomh Eoin Baiste agus Naomh Muire. Therefore, we warmly encourage you to nominate neighbours, friends or family members, both male and female, whom you deem worthy of serving Our Lord and our community in this vital ministry. As we prepare to augment our teams, we sincerely acknowledge the contribution of all the loyal and faithful parishioners who generously exercise this valued ministry. Last year, Bishop Liam Ó’ Murchú extended their term of commission through which they give eucharistic example and service in all our Parish Churches, Coláiste Íde, Dingle Hospital and the nursing homes, together with communion visits, on occasions, to our housebound sick. May the Lord reward them and their families for all their good work in our Christian community. We ask the Holy Spirit to inspire you as you encourage and help to expand this ministry in our parish. As we shall approach all those nominated by you in advance of our proposed training course, we ask you to prayerfully consider this important service. Please return your recommendations having signed the form below before the 17th of February. Please detach and return to Tigh na Sagart or to the church after Mass before 17th February. I wish to nominate the following for service as Ministers of the Eucharist.
