Parish Envelope Scheme and
Calendar 2013
Féilire Eaglasta 2013 and a boxes of envelopes have been distributed for your weekly offertory contribution, as well as an envelope for your Christmas Dues.
Tax can be claimed back by the Parish for each PAYE taxpayer who contributes over €250 per year. We invite every household to participate in this scheme and invite new parishioners to register by contacting the Parish Office on 9151208. A full account of both income and expenditure will be published in the New Year.
Spare envelopes for Christmas Dues, which help make up the Parish Priest’s salary, and 2013 calendars are available at the back of the three Parish Churches.

The Diocese of Kerry welcomes all to a public talk by John Waters, entitled “To Know is to Believe – Encountering the Holy”. This talk will take place in The GlenEagle Hotel, Muckross Road, Killarney on Monday January 7th 2013, beginning at 8.00pm. John Waters is well-known as an author and journalist. All are welcome as part of Diocesan Assembly.

Laochra an Chreidimh No.14 and 15
St. Louise was born on the 12th of August 1591 in Le Meux, France. She met St. Vincent de Paul and co-founded the ‘Ladies of Charity’. She was a nurse in the Ladies of Charity. By the time of her death in 1660, there were more than 50 Charity Houses in France.
I picked St. Louise because I want to be a nurse when I’m older. She was a very generous person and I like France. I admire her for her goodwill and determination. (Sadhbh – Bunscoil an Chlochair)
St. Catherine was born on the 17th of March 1347 in Siena, Tuscany in Italy. Catherine was the youngest of 25 children in her family. When she was 6 years old Jesus came to her and blessed her. She had always wished to be a nun when she was young. Catherine died in Rome in 1380, when she was just 33.
St. Catherine is the patron Saint of Europe, firemen, bodily ills, illness, miscarriages, nurses, people ridiculed for their piety and sick people. St. Catherine suffered much sickness when she was young.
I picked St. Catherine because the name goes through my family and I think I want to be a nurse when I’m older and St. Catherine is the Patron Saint of Nurses.

The Symbolic 12 Days of Christmas
The traditional song is a coded one aiming to teach the true Catholic doctrine during Penal Days in England – as in the “aisling” style of Gaelic poetry.
The first day of Christmas – The Partridge in the pear tree refers to Jesus Christ.
The second day of Christmas – Two Turtle Doves refer to the Old and New Testaments.
The third day of Christmas – Three French Hens refer to faith, hope and love, the three Christian virtues from 1 Cor. 13.
The fourth day of Christmas – Four Calling Birds refer to the four gospels or the four gospel writers: Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.
The fifth day of Christmas – Five Golden Rings refer to the first five books of the Old Testament, the Torah.
The sixth day of Christmas – Six Geese A-laying refer to the six days of creation.
The seventh day of Christmas – Seven Swans A-swimming refer to the seven gifts of the Holy Spiritual
Wisdom, Understanding, Right Judgement, Courage, Knowledge, Piety and Reverence.
The eighth day of Christmas – Eight Maids A-milking refer to the Eight Beatitudes

The ninth day of Christmas – Nine Ladies Dancing refer to the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit;

The tenth day of Christmas – Ten Lords A-leaping refer to the ten commandments
The eleventh day of Christmas – Eleven Pipers Piping refer to the eleven faithful apostles (minus Judas Iscariot).
The twelfth day of Christmas – Twelve Drummers Drumming refer to the twelve points of doctrine in the Apostle’s Creed.
Christmas Day is the first of the Twelve Days of Christmas. The period is viewed by Christians as the amount of time it took the three magi, or wise men, to travel to Bethlehem for the Epiphany, the revelation of Jesus Christ as the savior and the son of God (“epiphany” is from the Greek word for “revelation”).
Mission Crib Collections
Dingle Parish Pastoral Council have decided that this year the Crib offerings from Naomh Muire, Naomh Caitlín agus Naomh Eoin Baiste will be given to Holy Rosary Sister Áine Garvey’s former Mission in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Irish Christian Brothers’ Edmund Rice “Beyond 250 Appeal”. Bígí fial.
