The story of the Irish mission to Northumbria forms a unique chapter in the history of the Church in England as in less than a hundred years the foundations set and the seeds sown flourished into what became known as “The Golden Age of Northumbria”. The wonderful heritage going back to and developing from those years is very much alive and tangible, with many of the Church centres associated with that time still active as places of worship today. More details about the pilgrimage to follow. In the meantime if anybody is interested please contact Fr. Jim Sheehy at jimsheehy@diseart.ie or at the Díseart: 066-9152476. All first-time parents are required by Diocesan guidelines to attend a pre-Baptism talk with the local Priest. Parents from an outside Parish requesting Baptism must forward a letter of permission from their Parish of residence. Canon Law states that Godparents must be both confirmed and practising Catholics. Parents are asked to provide a photocopy of the child’s birth certificate or registration and return it to Tigh na Sagart with the completed Baptismal Application form which is available from the Parish Office. Ministers of The Eucharist A Íosa mhilis, ní suíochán duit mo theanga, ní lóistín duit mo chroí; Ach bronn orm do bheannaitheacht, ‘s go bhfana sí agam choíche. (Gairdín an Anama: An Sagart) Over Christmas President McAleese saluted the generosity and spirit of volunteerism manifested during the recent flooding in our country. This spirit has been clearly evident in many actions of concern and care shown during our post Christmas adverse weather. We are calling upon your spirit of Faith and generosity in supporting our parish campaign to seek, invite and train extra Ministers of the Eucharist for Pastoral Service in Naomh Caitlín, Naomh Eoin Baiste agus Naomh Muire. Therefore, we ask you to take a moment to pray and discuss before recommending family members or neighbours whom you will nominate for this ministry in our Parish. Together with Annascaul and Castlegregory Parishes we are organising a short course of preparation in An Díseart during this Lent. “As this broken bread was scattered over the hills and was brought together becoming one, so gather Your Church from the ends of the earth into Your kingdom, for You have all power and glory forever through Jesus Christ.” (Didache c. 100 AD) At the marriage of Cana, the King of graces was there in person, he and his Mother Mary, and wasn’t it a wonderful wedding! There were more guests than tables and the wine for them was wanting, and the water in the water-jars, wasn’t it lovely to taste! Ag an bpósadh bhí i gCána bhí Rí na ngrás ann i bpearsain, É féin is Muire Máthair, is nárbh álainn í an bhainis? Bhí cuideachta os cionn cláir ann, agus fíon orthu in easnamh, Is an t-uisce bhí san hárthaí, nárbh álainn é a bhlaiseadh? (Saltair: Pádraig Ó Fiannachta & Desmond Forristal)
