Abiding Challenge of Eucharistic Congress
Continued from last week:
For many there is a great resistance to allowing the message of the gospel to penetrate deep into our very soul and behaviour. That is the abiding challenge that the Eucharistic Congress offers to the country. – to see the Congress as an opportunity for a radical renewal rather than as an exercise of devotion and piety. There will be representatives from the four corners of the world gathering in Dublin next June. There will be many a workshop on the Eucharist and a final gathering in Croke Park which will naturally be limited in the numbers able to physically attend. The ‘fight’ for tickets will no doubt resemble that of an All Ireland Final.
The danger is that the whole affair could easily fall into the trap of simply becoming an event – fantastic though that event may and will be. Still just an event! A nice rather than a dangerous memory. For many who attended the great gathering in 1932 the thing most talked about was the singing of the Panis Angelicus by Count John McCormack. 1932 was also a celebration of the power and authority of the Church – this Congress is intended to be different. A celebration of Eucharist, of solidarity with the most vulnerable, of power with rather than power over – taking each part of our Eucharist and exploring its profound religious and social implications.
This Advent we began to celebrate officially the new rite of the Mass. One of the striking changes is found in the words of dismissal. A reminder that the Mass truly begins with the final words of the priest “Go and announce the Gospel of the Lord” or “Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by your life” – In other words every Mass invites us into a new world, a new future calling us to live fuller lives. The Mass sings a song of a world that is open, open to possibility. The Mass reminds us that we belong to something greater than ourselves, that we need to be prepared to forgive, to listen to others, to reflect on actions, to recognise that we are linked to others, to work for others, to learn to give thanks, to be a peacemaker, to go out – living for others. The Mass reminds us that this is not just something from our past but our future and that this future is truly possible here and now. To be cont’d.

Fómhar na Farraige 2012
A special céad míle fáilte to all who join us for our 11.30am celebration of Fómhar na Farraige or The Harvest of the Sea. We extend our thanks to those who help organise this annual liturgy, those who prepare and decorate the Church, those who supply the wonderful display of fish, all those who contribute items for the procession and for the decoration of the Church. Buíochas to all who play a special part in the Fishermen’s Mass as we offer our thanks to the Lord and ask His blessing on all whose livelihood depends on the sea.
Those who bring up the gifts place before us symbols of the great harvest of fish and other products which come from the sea, as well as items representing different aspects of sea-faring life and marine activities. Others present the bread and wine which become the Body and Blood of Christ. Our readers, those who read prayers of the faithful and the reflection – proclaim the life-giving Word of the Lord.
Fómhar ár bhfarraige,
The bountiful, life-giving harvest of our seas.
Moladh go deo le Dia na Cruinne.
Ag Dul ag Iascaireacht
Rath Sheáin agus Pheadair ar na líonta.
Rath Dé oraibh i gcomhair na hoíche, agus go mbuaile Dia seans maith umaibh, agus gach cinniúint atá ar siúl go gcuire Dia tharaibh faoi mhaise é agus thar gach n–aon.

Litir Bhuíochas For Crib Donation
An Baile Íochtarach,
Fr. T. Ó Luanaigh and Parish Pastoral Council,
Thanks very much for an unexpected gift towards Missionary activity. Even though South Africa is a very rich country there are many living in shacks – migration from rural to urban areas. We have a very good and capable Vincent de Paul society and their main concern is food parcels for the poor of which there are an increasing number. On my behalf say a word of thanks to the generous people of Dingle.
Beannacht Dé oraibh go léir,
Fr. Billy Lovett OFM.
FÓMHAR NA FEIRME Mass will be celebrated on Sunday August 19th at 11.30am when we give thanks for the Fruits of the Land.
