Naomh Stiofán: Phiocas an t-ainm Stiofán mar gur thaithin an t-ainm liom agus go raibh aithne agam ar dhaoine maithe eile darbh ainm Stiofán. Creidtear gurb é Naomh Stiofán an chéad mairtíreach Críostaí.
D’fhreagair said glaoch Íosa cabhrú le daoine eile.
Ciallaíonn an t-ainm Stiofán córóin. D’oibrigh Dia ana chuid miorúiltí tríd Naomh Stiofán. Deir said gur fhéach a aghaidh cósúil le haingeal. Tá aithne ag a lán de mhuintir na hÉireann ar Naomh Stiofán mar gheall ar Lá le Stiofán – go speisialta i gCorca Dhuibhne de bharr an dreoilín.
Dar le finscéal na hÉireann d’imir an dreoilín feall ar Chríost agus é ag dul i bhfolach óna naimhde. Scéigh an dreoilín ar Íosa agus é i bhfolach ó na saighdiúirí. Ó shin i leith déantar fiach ar an ndreoilín mar dhíoltas ar Chríost a bhraith ar Lá le Stiofán. Téann cuid de leanaí na hÉireann ó dhoras go doras le dreoilín. Is féidir leo canadh, ceol a sheinn nó rince.

Ave atque Vale

Tigh an tSagairt,
Fossa.

A Phobal na Páirte,
I sincerely wish to thank all the people of Dingle, Fionn Trá and Lios Póil for your support & care since 2007 & for last Monday’s memorable Liturgy, gifts & farewell party in Gáirdín Mhuire. It was my great privilege to serve you together with Fr. Eoghan Ó Cadhla & Fr. Bernard Ó hÉalithe. Buíochas ó chroí to all the clergy who generously offered to help in our parish ministry.
As we all welcome Fr. Seosamh Ó Beaglaoi, he can be assured of that same welcome and generous support in his ministry. Míle buíochas to all engaged in this work of the Lord and in particular to Cathy in the Parish Office.
I was entrusted with a donation of €250.00 which will go towards the restoration works on St. Mary’s Church organ. I also acknowledge the gifts of contributions which will help roof my Misíon Irlandesa Church of the Holy Spirit and decorate the Madre de Dios chapel in Trujillo, Peru.
With the Roman poet Catullus I bid you Ave atque Vale which means Hail and Farewell.

Sincerely in Mac Mhuire,
Fr. Tomás.

We thank Fr. Tom for his commitment and dedication to the people of Dingle, Ceann Trá and Lios Póil where he served as our parish priest for the past eight years. We wish him every blessing as he begins his pastoral duties in Fossa Parish this week.
Rath Dé ar do shaothar i bhfíonghort an Tiarna.

The Meaning of Christian Death
Indeed for your faithful, Lord,
life is changed, not ended,
and, when this earthly dwelling turns to dust,
an eternal dwelling is made ready for them in heaven.
The final article of the Creed proclaims our belief in everlasting life. At the Catholic Rite of Commendation of the Dying we sometimes hear this prayer: ‘Go forth, Christian soul, from this world … May you live in peace this day, may your home be with God in Zion, may you see your redeemer face to face’ (Prayer of Commendation of the Dying, no. 220). Death is the natural and inevitable end of life on earth. ‘[There is] a time for giving birth, a time for dying’ (Eccl (Qo) 3:2). We change, we grow old and even death seems appropriate after a full life. ‘The dust returns to the earth from which it came, and the spirit returns to God who gave it’ (Eccl (Qo) 12:7).
