Our Patron Saints / Laochra an Chreidimh No. 93. Joan of Arc. Joan was born at Domrémy, a village on the river Meuse in Eastern France on the 6th of January 1412. She was the daughter of a prosperous farmer, but never learned to read or write. When she was 12 she began to hear voices, those of St. Michael, St. Margaret and St. Catherine. At the age of 16, Joan was sent to the city of Tours, where the army was preparing to go to help Orléans, on the River Loire, which was being besieged by the English. She gained prominence when the siege was lifted after only 9 days. On May 23rd 1430 she was captured at Compiegne and handed over to the English. Joan of Arc was put on trial by the pro-English Bishop of Beauvais on a variety of charges, was convicted on May 30th 1431 and burned at the stake when she was about 19 years old.
Twenty five years after her execution, an inquisitorial court authorized by Pope Callixtus III examined the trial, pronounced her innocent and declared her a martyr. Joan of Arc was beatified in 1909 and canonized in 1920.

St. Mary’s Jubilee Prayer
Faithful God,
we thank You for this House of Prayer,
symbol of our union with You,
with each other, and with our own community.

We thank You for the vision
of all the people who sacrificed
to build this church.

Within these walls,
you call on us to come together and
create a loving welcoming parish family.

From these walls,
you call us out into our station districts,
our diocese and our world
to be Your hands and feet
and to help build your Kingdom on earth.

May we respond to your timeless Word
and become truly Eucharistic people.

May we go forth filled with your sense of mercy,
justice, and loving care.

May we be good stewards of your creation,
guarding and celebrating your gift of life.
In this Year of Jubilee,
we ask You to touch our hearts anew
with the love of Christ your Son and
the fire of Your Holy Spirit.
Fill our lives with the courage
to honour our history,
to strengthen our Faith and
to prepare for our future.
We ask this through your Son,
Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.
O Mary conceived without sin,
Pray for us who have recourse to thee.

An Séipéal
Is beannaithe tigh Dé
Is beannaímid féin dó
Mar a bhfuil sé leis an dá aspal déag.
Go mbeannaí Mac Dé dúinn.
