Ár gCóineartú
Our Patron Saints / Laochra an Chreidimh No. 101, 102, 103 & 104. St. Kevin: He is known as Coemgen as well as Kevin, according to tradition he was born at the Fort of the White Fountain in Leinster, Ireland of royal descent. He was baptised by St. Cronan and educated by St. Petroc. He was ordained, and became a hermit at the Valley of the two Lakes in Glendalough. After seven years there, he was persuaded to give up his solitary life. (Joshua – Scoil Iognáid Rís)
St. Julia Billiart was born in France in 1751 and died in 1816 at the age of 64. When the French Revolution broke out Julia offered her home as a hiding place for a loyal priest. Julia is the patron saint of poverty, illness and disease. Her feast day is April 8th.
(Hilary – Bunscoil an Chlochair)
Saint Michael: The Archangel is referred to in the Old Testament and has been part of Christian teachings since the earliest times. Throughout the centuries specific Roman Catholic traditions and views on St. Michael have taken shape, he is credited with driving Satan out of Heaven and also is believed he is present at the hour of a person’s death and is intent on Saving souls from Satan at that time. Roman Catholic literature and traditions continue to point to Saint Michael in contexts as varied as the Protection of the Catholic Church to the conversion of Russia by Popes Pius XII and John Paul regarding the messages reported by Our Lady at Fatima. This article reviews these Roman Catholic teaching and traditions. I chose Michael because my great granddad was called Michael and my uncle was called Michael and he was a Priest. (Seán – Bunscoil Iognáid Rís)
St. Declan: On the night of Declan’s birth a ball of fire was seen blazing on the summit of the house in which the child was born reaching up to the heavens and down again and it was surrounded by a multitude of Angels. He was baptised by St. Colman. He studied in Rome and when was ordained a Bishop, he was requested to go back to Ireland. He was known for his miracles healing the sick. His feast day is on the 24th of July.

Please wear appropriate footwear and clothing.
We offer this machnamh from Fr. Frank Fahey of Ballintubber Abbey, a recent visitor to Dingle Parish.
“Dear Pilgrim,
As you ‘walk the Cosán’, whether on foot or in fantasy, you will be going not only on a spiritual pilgrimage, but on a cultural and historical journey down through the ages also. And both experiences, if fully entered into, should bring about that change of heart and insight of mind which is essential to a pilgrim’s progress.
Dear Pilgrim, as you ‘walk the Cosán’, whether on foot or in fantasy, spare a thought and a prayer for those who travelled on this hallowed ground before you, and for the landowners who generously gave access to the pilgrims renewing this pilgrim route, and to those who snatched so much from oblivion by recording the past. For in our age the fields and rocks and hollows have, for the most part, lost their names. They have become secularized and have no identity except in terms of wealth and productivity.
And, dear pilgrim, do not be afraid or ashamed to ‘walk the Cosán’. To go on pilgrimage is as old as man himself. For even as we aspire to reach the stars or inhabit Mars, people, more than ever, seek to find self in that long spiritual journey inwards, symbolised by “Cosán na Naomh”.
