Lenten Guidelines for Celebrating the Sacrament of Reconciliation The two sacraments of the Eucharist and Penance are very closely connected. Because the Eucharist makes present the redeeming sacrifice of the cross, perpetuating it sacramentally, it naturally gives rise to a continuous need for conversion, for a personal response to the appeal made by Saint Paul to the Christians of Corinth: “We beseech you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God” (2 Cor 5:20). – Pope John Paul II To receive this sacrament and spiritually benefit from it, a person needs: 1. To examine his or her conscience; 2. To be sincerely sorry for sin; 3. To resolve to avoid sin in the future; 4. To confess the sins committed; 5. To accept the penance assigned. Gníomh Aithrí Admhaím duit, a Dhia mhóir na n-uile chumhacht, Mo pheacaí, iomad mo mhórlocht, Ó lá mo bhaiste go dtí lá mo thórraimh, Trí smaointe mo chroí, trí radharc mo shúl, Trí chlos mo chluas, trí ráite mó bhéil, Trí chúrsa mo rian, trína ndúrt nach raibh fíor, Trínar gheallas agus nár chomhlíonas, Trínar réabas de do dhlíthe Agus de d’aitheanta naofa. Iarraim aspalóid ort anois féin in ainm milis Íosa. In ainm an Athar agus an Mhic agus an Spioraid Naoimh. (Saltair: Urnaithe Dúchais – Ó Fiannachta)
